  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC 3D...

Hehe sorry Ketch. Didn't mean to come off defensive at all. We get the cost comments every now again but its typically because folks don't realize what is actually included.

He he no problem at all Joey, fortunately I do know what is included, and by far ET's rigs, out of all of those that I have seen, but more so the newest edition to the family, which is what I'll be receiving soon for the Epic-X's is a true state of the art design, and while the Quasar is nonetheless, a beauty, was too big for me to consider, and after few tests I had to give up, do to the fact of the style of shooting I chose for my projects.

However, I can say that capabilities of ET's rigs, go far beyond the looks and ease of transformation from the various possible configurations, but most impressive to me is the reduce Spaghetti war that we see often in this rigs, and no doubt my most favorites are the Wireless controls, and monitoring capabilities.

Will see you guys soon again at ET's, and BTW I loved the new space, so much more room, and the S3D viewing room is perfect to get an immediate first hand look and fill for what is possible, and look forward to give you guys some material of my own to show off at ET.

Jim, it`s good to see you posting again, always evident is that jolt of dynamism when you do,a dose of `anti mediocracy`.Nice one.
Glad you are feeling better Mr Jim.

We saw this yesterday at RED HQ LA. it is even more impressive in person. A 40lb handheld 5K 3D rig is insane.
Element Technica is working on some other great things that everyone will definitely want.

Stay tuned...

Just one thing to keep in mind when You are considering size - I am 6'4", but next to Jarred I am a dwarf. Jarred is huge. Try 7'+... So the rig is not as small as it seems on the first sight. Mind You - it is tiny compared to the current 3D mirror rigs for RED ONE and Film cameras. Just keep in mind the size of Jarred...
I think I would also "blame" Jarred for most of the "first encounters with RED ONE shock". Most of us would remember when we saw RED ONE for the first time in person, it was so much bigger then it looked in the pictures. I think this was partially because Jarred was responsible for most (if not all) of those pics and they represented more of his POV and how he see things...

Hehehehehe...

 Peter

Joey I have seen and played with both the Quasar and the Neutron, but is this customized, and or revised version of the Neutron for the two Epic configuration, one and the same , or those it change n some of its physical characteristics form what I have seen so far?

BTW: For those that don't know, click on any of the pics, once enlarged, so that it will take you to Picasa, and you will be able to see the pics in full glory ;~)

We are actually using a prototype based off the Neutron :)

and remember.. that weight is based off of everything on the rig.. including a shoulder support with handles, 3 hour batteries ( RED BRICKS ) to power each camera, all lens motors, motor boxes, lockit, etc. etc. etc..

Awesome!!! It's even smaller then!

Hey, I knew I decided to get two Epic-X cameras for a reason.

~45lbs for a 3D rig??? Cool... I've run around with plenty of RED One configs on my shoulder that weighed that much or even more. I guess we'll see how much the ET 3D rig costs. I'm probably doomed to renting on the rare occasion I need to shoot 3D.

expanding on my post from page 6, if you do have the time... http://realvision.ae/blog/2010/04/is-shooting-3d-movies-as-complex-as-open-heart-surgery/

skip the first few philosophical paragraphs to get to the beamsplitter bit.
I don't intend this to be an anti-beamsplitter point of view, I still believe that for very closeup work and where it matters, a beamsplitter is best used, but otherwise it should be best tools for the job... and a faster release of a true 3D formfactor friendly RED rig (a.k.a Scarlet) :thumb_postwhore:

Cheers!

Forgive me if this has been covered before or if it's just a dumb question... but if shooting 3D, can you strike a 2D version from just one of the cameras?

yes you could, with certain considerations in mind. For example, if it's an OTS shot with two people speaking, or a head on shot ... eye-line of the talent may just be slightly off.

Jannard can you tell us what the total weight is without the batteries ? Do you feel you would be able to work with lines coming off camera go to hard drive the current setup you have now? thanks
