  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm shooting/editing a documentary on tattoos in the military.

We are traveling throughout our production, so if you know veterans/soldiers with ink willing to discuss on camera, please forward to them. We are planning on shooting in Honolulu, San Francisco, Fayetteville, Alaska, Killeen and a few other places. Working on a "trip" to Iraq/Afghanistan as well.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
 
Hey Shawn. My son is stationed at Ft Hood in Killeen, has done one tour and about to depart back to Iraq in a couple months. Their unit will be the LAST to leave Iraq.

He just got a killer full sleeve Tattoo on one arm and plans on getting more. He and his friends in his units are pretty tattoo obsessed. :)

Im sure they would love to participate.

Hi Shawn,

I am really looking forward to this, please keep us updated. i have a bunch of good friends still in the service so i will pass this along. I myself just got a tribute tattoo for my grandfather who was in the 43rd Infantry Division “Winged Victory”, they were part of the second big wave of soldiers to hit Guadalcanal.

This should turn into a great documentary.

hey, you can come visit my old unit N btry 5/14 here in LA. We just recently returned from afghanistan in december and plenty of Marines with tats here. Sounds like an interesting project, I'd be interested in helping you shoot if you're looking to people to help you out. Been to both Iraq and Afghan myself:-) I myself do not have any tats however:-P

Maybe not within your remit but I understand Russian military tattoo's are really interesting. There's a real code to them, a bit like the Russian prisoner tattoo system. Just a thought. Best of luck with the doco.
