Hi all,

I have just got an early Cine-tal Cinemage 24" panel (Model 2000)
Being an early stripped down model it doesn't have DVI in/out

I wish to run it in conjunction with a NEC 26" 2690 panel that is DVI into my GFX card and then Final cut studio.

I would love to get a Quadro with SDI daughterboard but funds will not permit:sad:

What is the best way to get the Mac to connect to Cine-tal ? I looked at the Gefen conversion boxes, would one of them do the job?

I basically want the Mac pro GFX card to send out DVI to the NEC and DVI 2 to the Cine-tal.

Any help would be really appreciated

Thanks in advance.

BTW I have a ton of Red One footage to then grade on the Cine-tal hence putting the thread in here:)

Either a Blackmagic or AJA is your best bet really then you have a proper SDI SD/HD signal out of the mac rather than converting a Computer output.

Converters to go DVI to SDI will cost pretty much the same aas a real video I/O card.

Apple FCP and Color will both work wit the AJA/BM IO cards.

Hi flameop, sounds great!

Is there in your opinion a better brand (I have heard good things about AJA Konas?)

Thanks

Better go AJA, BM doesn't support progressive in 1080 (yet?).

Just had a quick look and the Black magic DeckLink HD Extreme looks great, anyone tried it?

Thanks

We run Blackmagic here.. HD extreme and some Intesity(hdmi) for offline preview comping. Never had issues really. Just got to make sure you setup correctly.

AJA are better quality but never had probs with BM.

As for 1080 P in FCP it lists 1080i and 1080psf same as the Kona codecs list. It does list blackmagic 1080P 24 prorez though.

Nomad is this a concern about true P from the Red?

Current software updates for the Kona cards do list and support true 1080p as well as 1080i and 1080psf.

Just my 2 cents, but if I were you I'd go with AJA. The cards perform wonderfully well and if you ever do happen to have an issue, AJA support is hands down the best in the industry.

Yes. This is from BM's product description:

HD Format Support:
1080PsF23.98/24, 1080i48, 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 720p59.94, 720p60 and 720p50.

AJA is listing progressive formats.

The Red doesn't output psf, IMHO one of the reasons we have problems with many professional monitors. It's always true progressive.

hi uli,

what kind of problems do you have with professional monitors?

kind regards,
martin

Exactly.

Ok I think I have settled on getting a Kona 3x (Going into a PCI-X G5)

And that will connect directly to the Cine-tal and my GFX card card to the 26" NEC Panel.

Thank you all for your help :)
