Dear All,

Thanks for visiting

Can this camera give resolution
Can it give details
Color I am certain it can due to 12 bit raw
But why it doesn't heat
Can it clean the noise using any software
Sure it will have dynamic range no question on that.

How it compares to EOS R 5C just only in terms of clean image output with its resolution

I dont want to depend on digital sharpening in resolve or any other

Please comment with your thoughts

Hi Sharon,

This camera gives you 6K resolution, and it's pretty detailed in my experience.

Color is very good and fits well within the RED ecosystem. A combination of Nikon and Graeme essentially.

The camera does get warm, but the sensor is efficient at dispersing the temperature. I had the camera running for about 6 hours when I was testing it. And I was stress testing it in that regard. No issues. Side note, one important thing that's hard to convey is different sensors require different cooling to ensure good image quality. Some need only a passive heatsink, others require active cooling in some regard. This also plays a role in power draw for cameras that need active cooling solutions.

Yes, noise reduction works as expected. "Any software", hard to say, but typical NR techniques in Resolve for instance work fine.

I also own the R5C, interesting comparison really. DR is actually a bit better, but these are two different systems. ZR for instance has IBIS, R5C does not. That may or may not be of importance for you.

I didn't find any need to sharpen the footage really. The camera has a fairly powerful ASIC and DSP. Something Nikon does well.

thanks very much I wanted to get r5c but r3d is so powerful. And very tempting esp when in such Sigma fp like form.

I learned that I can never replicate Canon magic but I want the wow factor . I guess it can deliver with r3d

Important thing for me isclean detailed high res image. The rest doesn't matter . Canon I had experienced in past

Red komodo does it. Better

So I take in a sense its better choice.

A (probably ridiculous) question, but being as this NE of R3D is using the RWG Log3G10 gamma curve, should we expect middle grey and related stops to be where they are on say footage from a KX?

I’m trying to build some false color LUTs using the white paper from RED, but while they seem to work on KX footage displayed in Resolve on an RWG Log3G10 timeline, when I import them into the ZR they don’t match up with the Nikon zebras at all.

I have the feeling I might have to measure in manually as best I can.

here is the video i shot myself. using ZR and 70 200 at 200 mm. 800 base iso, on tripod , natural light only. red standard lut is used, i believe its very soft version. either low contast or medium.
no other major adjustment or color correction done

Images are extracted from resolve . video shot r3d 50 fps.
