I'm going to be purchasing a Scarlet hopefully within a year from now, and I was wondering about lens choices. I'm not a big fan of stills glass for video solely because of the practical differences. My shoots generally are kind of crazy, and I need something that can hold up to the wear and tear that I know they will be put through. I will also be doing a lot of weddings and event type stuff, as well as nature films. The Zeiss Compact Zooms caught my eye a while ago, but I don't like the fact that due to the size, you're pretty much confined to a tripod using them. However the range of the 70-200 is attractive, especially for weddings when you have to be farther away from the action sometimes, as well as some of the nature stuff. But at almost 10 inches and close to 7 pounds, I don't think I'd really be able to use it for handheld stuff, which is what I usually go with because you can be more creative with your shot choice and angle and things. The shorter zoom is only 7 inches and around 6 pounds, but that's still pretty massive for handheld work. A prime set would be cheaper than getting the two zooms, which is also a plus. I guess my biggest beef is the fact that the longest cinema prime I've found in the $4000 price range is 135mm, one from Canon and one from Zeiss. I'm not sure how long that would reach, as I've never used anything quite that long before, but I've also never had to get a shot of a speaker from 60+ feet away. Could anyone tell me how long of a reach I'd need for that?
I know this is kind of long and disjointed and all over the place, I'm kind of trying to organize my thoughts and whatnot, but I need some advice.... Thanks a ton!
