I recorded an event Friday night where I rigged a Zoom H6 as a camera mic with minitele into the mic-jack on my Weapon. When looking at the material the sound sounds like going through a fan, vibrating.
What's causing this? It was mostly atmospheric sound of people, so it works, but why does it sound like that? Is there something wrong with the camera's audio?

We have the same problem on our Weapon.. Sounds pretty bad, also when using headphones while recording..
Contacted RED Support for this issue last week because I think the sound ports on our base expander are broken

It sounds more like some processing error for the audio, but it would be good to know what's up with it.

I bet there is some kind of internal compressor or limiter going, personally I wouldn't use zoom gear, especially with the mic pres out, background is 20 years in audio

I use the Zoom H6 because I'm not primarily doing sound. It's for those gigs that require it. Why don't you like Zoom? I feel the noise floor is a bit high, but it's pretty solid for it's price. I think I had the limiter on, you would say it's that? It's weird because that doesn't appear on the recorded track on my Zoom, only on the internal tracks of my R3D clips. Why is that happening? Is the line out bad on the Zoom?

Then just swap out the audio. Easy!

Internal audio on any RED should absolutely never be treated anything else than a rough scratch track.

which is kind if silly on a $30K+ camera

We have sent a support ticket in on something similar with our new Epic-W, also. Even with nothing plugged in, the files have a very loud hissy noise to them. We can certainly bury it when we plug in mic's but it's not good to start with a high noise floor. We send RED a sample file of the noise and are hoping to hear back.

Both of our brand new Epic-W's do it, so I hope it's not something that requires returning cameras to fix...
