  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zeiss zf still

The Zeiss ZF's are incredible lenses. Especially the 85 on the RED. Tons of resolving power. Great contrast and corner sharpness. Beautiful glass.

Do ZeissZF's cover Full Frame still photography as well?

You might want to check out the Nikon 80-200mm.
It should match quite nicely with the ZFs.

That mod job on that 80-200 looks sick. The 80-200mm f~2.8 is one of the lenses that gets used the most in my kit. Plus it produces some awesome images. The ZFs are some amazing glass, I'm just waiting for that 21mm f~2.8 to come out to round out my kit. Then I can finally get ride of my 20mm f~2.8 Nikon lens. I just don't like it because of the mechanics of the lens. It still captures some nice images, it just isn't as nice to use as my Zeiss set.

sick=good

That mod is definitely sick!

Hey Matt, can you supply the 80-200 (like you can ZFs) or would I need to buy it and send it to you?

Jim is right in my use of the work "sick". Its just the skater in me I guess :matrix:

We stock the Nikon 80-200 modded and ready to go.
You can't see it in the photo, but our mod also includes a taller foot to interface with an Arri low-bridge or similar support.

Does the mod on the 80-200mm cost a little bit more than the ZF mods?

I just quoted one today.
The Nikon 80-200 would be approximately $1,600.00
That includes the lens (obviously) and the complete cine-mod.

So that mod is twice as much as the ZF mod. What's the list of things that are done to the lens?

Other than the potential for a bit of iris slip as you have mentioned in the past, is there any reason this wouldn't still work as an automatic still lens on a D90?

Jim

It will still work just fine on a Nikon. I was just messing around with a modded lens yesterday on a D300.

The extra cost is basically just material.
The gears are much larger diameter than the ZF lenses. I believe they are a 4" diameter.
The cine-mod includes:
32-pitch Focus Gear
32-pitch Zoom Gear
De-clicked iris
Extended Support Foot

The iris will creep due to the spring loaded aperture connector... But it won't matter. When you put the 80-200 on a Nikon camera, you lock it at f22 with the little tab and you control the aperture with the camera.
The creeping aperture issue would only slightly effect the ZF lenses on a Nikon camera. And not much at that...
