  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zeiss zf still

Could you post a quick rack focus clip from that lens to show the breathing? Really curious how it compares to the Nikon 85mm f1.4, etc..

Not a big deal if you can't get to it... Thanks.

ill post a clip once it gets edited.
however.. not sure if i did a rack or not in this set up:(
but I will set up a test this week and give you guys some juicy clips

The 85mm f~1.4 ZF is my favorite lens in my kit. The ZFs are some really good glass IMHO. If you know what they can do you can get some awesome images out of them.

yes.. 85 and 28 are my favorite and sharpest lenses in my zf kit..
unfortunately my kit is just 28 35 50 and 85..

my 50 is the 1.4 so i dont want to shoot it wide open.

i reallly need a wide lens.. but the 18 zf is just too slow for me..

i also need a long range lens.. so im looking into long zoom options.

Nice! Yeah, the ZF 85mm is my favorite as well. The 50mm 2.0 macro is beautiful, but the 85 just shines!

so im looking into long zoom options.

You might want to check out the Nikon 80-200mm.
It should match quite nicely with the ZFs.

Hi Zakaree,

The ZF series is going to have a 21mm f2.8 soon. It's been delayed a few months. If the lens is as good as the old Zeiss Contax 21 was it will be a killer.
Should cover FF35 just fine. The new version does focus back ass-wards like the others in the series do. The Contax model did not.

yah, ill go with the 21mm...
ill get a 14-24 to cover my super wide end...

and Ill take Matt's advice and look into the 80-200..

which reminds me.. does the 80-200 come out like a bazooka cannon, or is it internal?

isnt it a canon mount though?
Im nikon based

Actually it's in Leica M mount. I thought it came in slr mounts too. My bad.
Too bad that it's in the range finder mount as it's a very good wide angle lens at it's stop. Mayby when the new RED cameras come out with a decent interchangable mount system it will be useable. Or just put on one of those IMS systems when you warrenty runs out.

I'm loving my Zeiss ZF too, and so were my clients this weekend, especially the 85mm.

I'll definately be adding the 21mm to the set.

Not sure I'll be using anything else for quite a while, even if I had the brass..

It's internal, so it works great with a mattebox. For the price it is a fantastic lens. Optically it is beautiful, very sharp. CA is minimal, with the exception of WFO at the long end, where it gets soft as well, but stop down slightly and it all goes away. Mechanically it is a still zoom lens no question about it. However if you're looking for a longer nikon mount zoom, this is a hard one to beat.

Honestly.. I am extremely happy with my zf's. I would shoot everything on them and do...but of course im not doing big budget stuff, so no one is really there to criticize the fact that my lenses do not look pro enough (cosmetic not optically).. and really, if a 1st complains hes cut.

No reason not to be happy with them, and my most recent client works on one of the UKs most popular TV shows.. and he borrowed some of the crew.. no complaints here that I can remember, and everyone a pro :)
