  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

zeiss ZF lens - yes/no?

so what is the best lens on Nikon mount for 10mm to 15mm range ?
preferably prime rather than zoom, before I go to the Underdahl-mount route

I did try the Nikon 14mm, red shirt become orange-ish (if there's such a word), while it's perfectly red using 18mm ZF.

I'd look at the Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5. Have seen some very good reviews. If you can live with f/4.5.

I'm curious about pulling focus with these in comparison to PL mount lenses (S4's or Ultra Primes).

You can check out more info about these lenses here: Zeiss Test.

In short the ZF lenses do not have as long as a throw as PL glass, and they focus backwards from PL glass.

(However, I think that the way that the Nikon glass rotates makes a lot more sense. If I want to focus close, I turn the follow focus towards me. If I want to focus far away, I turn the follow focus away from me. To bad that is not the standard ...)

it is slow for a cinema use.
I use my wide lenses mostly in confined spaces where lighting is always a challenge.

You could also try 14/2.8 primes from Sigma and Tamron. But I doubt they'll be better than the Nikon.

I wish there were some more inspiring choices for Nikon mount. The Zeiss 15mm, available in Leica M (f/2.8) and Contax (f/3.5), looks perfect. When are they gonna make a ZF version?!?!? :nerd:
