Hey guys,

Very reluctantly letting our Zeiss Superspeed MK3 set go. Incredibly beautiful set of glass, very hard to find. Very well loved.

Recently completely overhauled by Zeiss.

Includes custom closed-cell foam insert and metal case.

$36K US

PRICE DROPPED! These need to go!

Update: These are the later (newer) version of the MK2's. In Europe lens tech's refer to these as MK3's as they are mechanically and optically identical to the MK3's. In the US these are referred to as MK2's. They have the same fully rotating focus ring as the MK3's.

MORE PICS IN POST'S 35+36+37!

Serials available on request!

Cheers!

43k in american dollars?

Hey guys,

I am not a lens expert but what I have been told by Zeiss Australia is that these are MK3's - Apparently the focus and iris gears have a different pitch (to each other) on the MK2's.
The pitch on the gears on this set is the same.
Hope that helps.
Cheers!
S

Thanks Darryl, is that definitive - is the info regarding the gears incorrect?

We paid over 45K for this set. This would mean that Zeiss Australia has given us incorrect info.
Much appreciated,
S

Hey guys - more info.

There seems to be some confusion in this thread regarding MK2 vs MK3. I am no lens expert, so I am happy to defer to those who know more than I do.

However - here is some more info that may help.

Yes, the MK3's generally had either Feet or Meters marked on the barrel, and these have both.
BUT, as far as I understand, one of the significant changes that the MK3's brought in was a larger rotation on the focus barrel, almost 360 degrees - these HAVE THAT. The focus barrel turns about 355 degrees.
Zeiss Australia recently completely rebuilt all 5 of these lenses and their determination was that they are MK3's.
One of the things that they mentioned also is that the pitch of the gears on these is in line with the MK3's, not the MK2's.

That's pretty much all I can offer, hope that helps somewhat.
They are beautiful glass.
Cheers,
S

Those lenses are MK2s. They are not MK3s. The focus scale is expanded on MK3s and on MK2s there is less rotation and making are usually orange. You have both Meter and Imperial markings which is only on MK2. Also if you look at the 18mm the Iris gear does not have the same pitch as the focus gear or the iris gear on the other lenses. On MK3s the 18mm has an iris gear with the correct cine pitch. Yes they are the same glass between the two models but the improved markings and the few number of MK3s made makes them more valuable. I have a set of both MK3 and MK2. They are interchangable photographically.

Thanks for the info Steve, much appreciated!

My apologies, I was going off what I had been told. The explanation of the 18mm gear pitch makes sense, I hadn't heard that it was just the 18 that was different and so I was looking at the 35 to check.

I have updated the OP accordingly - bidders please take all this info into account. I am more than happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability.

Thanks!

Can I ask why you're letting them go?

Of course mate!

We are having to invest in other business assets and as much as I love them (trust me, this isn't an easy decision!!) I just can't justify hanging on to them any longer.

It really pains me to do this. I paid well over the price I am asking for to find a set in great condition and I seriously looked for 9 months (no joke) before I was able to find a set that I was happy with.
Cheers,
S

There's two versions of MKII's an early and a later version. The later version is also known as MKIII in the eyes of European Zeiss lens technicians (my guess is that Australian technicians are influenced by UK). So you're not wrong and in the same way you are. The hollywood way of seeing has more or less become universal. Therefor these lenses are to be considered MKII's later version when selling, especially on reduser. Optically they're equal to the MKIII's and the difference is that the focus wraps around 350 degrees and that it has both imperial and metric focus marks.

Thanks so much, Frank. That makes much more sense to me now. The focus ring issue was really puzzling me. (As they ring does rotate 350 degrees and I kept hearing info that only happened on the MK3's)

Really good to know,
Much appreciated mate.
