Hey everyone,

I have a Zeiss Superspeed set available now for sale in LA. This set is in very good condition, serviced by Stuart at Focus Optics last month. I know these are quite hard to find now, so wouldn't sell them otherwise-but I'm upgrading. These will still be a hot item even when the Red prime lenses come out because it's 1.3 & the "Zeiss" name helps get the jobs...

Zeiss Superspeed 1.3 mk II
18, 25, 35, 50, 85
will post photos by the weekend, please send me a bid with your information via pm or email (info at ruggedfilm.com) if you're interested.

Please email me at info at ruggedfilm.com, or PM. Please respond with your name, phone number, email and a bid.

WOW! that's almost the new set cost,
sounds great margin for all those old lens set right?

that's true, in Asia really cost about 16-20K,
just wondering how come those old lens getting such expensive,
May be too many ppl own their Red One, and some of them became a DOP easier,
so, they need to buy those old lens for the complete package, then they can get project easier right? just guess...

Where

Where

Hey man,

Where in asia, is there a website or something where one could hunt them down? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

super speeds for 16-20k...I think these were prices a few years ago before the shortage. there has been a shortage for super speeds ever since the P+S 35mm adapter came out even before red. there are quite a few sets in Asia but none of the companies want to sell them. =(

I'm sure you can find speeds for 30K and less, but they will be beaten up sets. These are in very good condition because I got it from a private owner on the east coast. But the price is not set, I just have a minimum and only want to deal with serious buyers, please send me your bids and I will consider. Otherwise I'll just keep them because it's hard to find speeds that are in good condition.

Best,
Ryo

Yeah, I kick myself every day for not buying a set of speeds 2 years ago... I could have bought a set of 4 in immaculate condition for $16K - $20K. Today, the going rate is double that. Personally, I think the "shortage" is somewhat imaginary, there doesn't seem to be that much of a shortage of people willing to part with the lenses at these higher prices. I see new ads pop up every few days all over the place. But I can't fault myself too much for not buying a couple years back... Two years ago, I was in a different place and I was fully intending to use only Nikon glass on my RED.

Oh well, what can we do though? Sellers have the advantage. As overpriced as these 20+ year old lenses may be, they're still far and away cheaper than new Master Primes and a bit cheaper than new Ultras. Ultra Primes may technically be superior glass and produce a sharper image, they still lack the T1.3 aperture and the softer, more distinct look of the older super speeds.

You're so right on that Jeff. I actually find the softer look to be more suitable for RED. It makes it more filmic. I very often find myself trying to rough the image up a little, flare and soften it some with for example B promist.

A colleague found himself not being able to flare the lens for the director the other day, because he was using master primes hahaha

The superspeeds are small, light and they go to 1.3...one more  (then Ultra primes of course)
