Just a quick question to ask if anyone has experience with which is sharper wide open and which breath less, Standard speed vs Compact Prime?

Thanks
Jon

Hi Jon,

It varies a bit from focal length to focal length -

the Standard speeds mostly breathe a bit less. Cine specific designs.

the CP2's have a bit better contrast at a given stop - . Newer coatings.

Resolution is about the same... a set of standards might be 30 years old so condition of the lenses may or may not come into play.
when I tested the CP1's there were standout good lenses and some that were a bit weak - not sure what's happened in this
regard with the CP2's

The physical size of the two lens sets is quite different as is the coverage, those would probably also be important questions to ask yourself if trying to choose between the two sets.

I'm a big fan of standards. The look and flaring is excellent. Problem I have with CP's is the slowness of their wider lenses. Otherwise, I quite like the size and mechanics. Great focus draw on CP's. Standards because of the short physical length of the lens can be a real pain with some MB / FF combos. Not sure if standards cover 5k.

Matt,

...CP1 lenses, which one(s) you find is standout good and a bit weak ?

Thanks!

Antoine

Unfortunately do not.

18mm is a disaster till T5.6 1/2. 50mm and 85mm like the Supers, are great at a T2.8, but wide open a mess. the 21-35mm are sort of ok.

The most inconsistent lenses i've ever used.

That said, to make it even more inconsistent, the new 100mm macro is VERY VERY sharp, and looks great. So it will stand out from the rest. Hopefully they will re visit the rest of the set and make CP3's.

I had hard time deciding between a 8 lens set of standard speed and a 4 lens set of panchro. Our group ended up getting the standard speed. We love it, they are very sharp. Like what Ned said, their look and flaring is excellent. We also really like its size and weight.
