Hey Argyris, looks like you've literally been intermixing Super Speeds and Contax Zeiss glass! How cool is that! We've been talking a lot on the boards about how Contax glass uses the same coatings as Super Speeds, and shares a remarkably similar look (except they cover full frame). But you may be the first I've seen that actually mixes the two in a set. Would you mind sharing a bit about how well the Contax glass matched your Supers, and image wise how similarly they rendered?

Thx!

Mitch Gross was just telling me yesterday about his old set of Contax -> Aaton mount primes. A nice solution for 16mm owner-operators back in the day... fun to remember mixing Contax and Superspeeds used to be the norm :)

Nice! Yeah, it does seem that way. I've come across a number of board postings on other sites of DP's mentioning mixing the two. I guess it was a thing...

Hi Nick,
this kind of mix was quite common at those days.
I remember we might get a tiny color shift, no more than one point in photochemical printing, but the contrast was practically the same. Of course these lenses did not have the great mechanical virtues of the super speeds but they did not share their price tag either. :-)

Hey Argyris, cool to know!! I noticed that your 35mm 1.4 has the HTF coating, which is actually the Rollei coating (thought to be almost identical to the Zeiss T* coating). I wonder if that Rolei coating accounts for the tiny adjustments in the grade? Also your Contax 50 1.4 was quite a bit newer than your Super Speeds, so that may have led to a tiny adjustment here or there too...but the point is still that regardless of either issue, they were all remarkably close. And that's great to know!!! A lot of us are collecting Contax glass because they look so much like Super Speeds , so it's great to hear from someone like you that mixed the two professionally...and did so at a time when this mix was pretty common. Cool!!

Sorry Jay, I missed your question. Asking 4200 Euros + Shipping for the five lenses, 9.5-12-16-25-35 The other two are currenty undegoing service.
