  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zeiss or Xeen

Gents does anyone have experience with the Milvus line ? ... I am looking to upgrade from my L Series lenses (16-35 / 50 / 24-70) and am looking at various options.

The Xenon's / CN-E's and CP's are obviously a possibility but would have to be one step at a time, I've used the CP's extensively in the past on my 1DC but never on my Epic.

The Milvus or Even Otus range does interest me as I like to take stills too.

Milvus cine-modded by Duclos looks like the best deal going to me. Esp the Nikon version with manual iris, as long as you don't mind reverse focus direction. I can't stand controlling Iris electronically, so the Canon version is out.

I just started to shoot a low budget horror feature film with the Xeen lens, after few tests it looks OK but first thing I noticed is there is some obvious breathing, more feedback to come...

Im in a similarly frustrating boat. I'm loving the Milvus line but I would like to avoid electronic apertures if at all possible, but, on the other hand, the nikons focusing in the opposite direction is a total deal breaker for me. So I'm somewhat stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment.

I feel your pain. FWIW, I'd rather have servo control of the iris from a thumb or finger wheel on an ergonomic grip. Another option might be FoolControl for remote controllable iris pulls when you have an AC...

I've been looking into those options as well, but my fear with electronic apertures (and this may be better classified as a paranoia) is that I am at the mercy of firmware updates. As in, a bad firmware release may break the electronic apeture control like we saw with 6.x.x

I may just be paranoid, but I would hate to have to choose between a new camera feature and my personal lens set (like I had to do when the Standard OLPF was first released and I had to hold off, or not use the nikon lenses that I own).

I would love love to hear other people's thoughts on this issue?

All these issues have been resolved.
Iris pulls, direction change, these are not issues anymore.
I swear this is like 2010 all over again....;-)

So I stopped by the Rokinon/Xeen both at NAB and found out they are offering their lenses at a special price of $1750 for a single lens or $1500 per lens if you buy 3 or more. I was tempted to jump but it really isn't the right time for me to plunk down $6K or more.

I thought I'd mention it for anyone who is still at NAB and might want to go by there and consider it. The guy said it was only at NAB and "you'll never see that pricing again." I know, salesman talk but still, I haven't seen them at that price before.

I wouldn't have known about the pricing unless I chatted with the guy so you might have to ask. He offered free shipping and, of course, no sales tax would be charged.

Good luck!

[MODS - sorry for the double post. I original posted this in gear for sale but it seems like folks may not see it there very easily.]
