  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zeiss lens

Anyone know this lens? Has kinda a video lens (mayby for one inch vidicon) look to it.

It's Arri STD mount, so it's no video lens. If you're thinking it would be good for RED, I reckon you'll find it won't cover, and maybe not even 2k.

Just because it has an Arri mount on it doesn't mean that it did not start out in some other configuration. They state in their ad that it covers S16 and from what I understand a standard 16mm format lens will work for 2K.

Well looking at the fact it was made by JENA, means it was made by the west german Zeiss factory before re-unification. If it was made for a TV camera, then they wouldn't have had a great deal of resolution to work with back then.

And I've never heard of a ARRI STD mount video camera either, so I gather it's been re-fitted. Arri STD mount was never meant to cover Super 16. All the STD mount cameras were STD 16, not Super. Im not sure that it doesn't mean that it's not possible to have a super 16 Arri STD mount lens.

I'd be wanting to test and even then i suspect it's going to be pretty average optically. Might be nice for an effect...

Absolutly right. Never by a lens (espically a zoom) that you can't test and return if your not happy with it.

Angenieux reworked the venerable 12-120 into a Super-16 15-150 in the late seventies/early eighties. It is certainly not the finest piece of optical equipment out there, but it will cover the 2K image. Would not be my first choice for the RED, even when shooting 2K.

On the contrary, Jena used to be East-Germany, former DDR.

The western Zeiss company has its headquarter at Oberkochen, Schwarzwald.

I have tested some Regular 16 lenses and they do cover 2k fine. Why not just get the 10-100 T2 or even the T3 T* version. Would be wider than the 15mm on this lens and quality is nice except for the zeiss breathing.

Sorry. My mistake. I got the east and west mixed up and meant to say...oh...never mind...
