Zeiss Compact Zoom Reviews

Chad, you may want to contact Josh Cohen at NVCamera.com, I don't think he's a member of RedUser but he's got the 1st Zeiss Compact Zoom in Las Vegas.

No problem Chad, let me know how it goes and what you think of the lens...

We love our Ziess 70-200, its just the ticket for many needs.

Anytime you need something a little longer then most primes (or short to medium zooms) you are left with very large 10-1 style lenses. Its much harder to call the exact focal length when you get into tele's, like the 135, 150, 180mm. Much easier to put on a variable/zoom and dial it in rather then march all over the place with your camera and long prime. The 70-200 is small-ish, doesnt require massive support like many 10-1's, cost is very reasonable. Its a winner. Haven't used the shorter compact, but I imagine the quality is first class, so as a companion to 70-200 its a great choice but then there are so many other lenses in this short to mid zoom arena that are amazing ie Optimo's and the new Canon's are very good lenses.

I've got the best of the best Leica R zooms 35-70/2.8, 70-180/2.8. Alongside the 15/2.8, 21-35/3.5, 400/2.8 but would rather have basically 3 lenses to cover that whole distance from 15 to 400. Also the ability to zoom in shot and have it stay in focus would be nice. The R 70-180 is even better than the canon 70-200. Maybe I can ask Duclos to compare the R 70-180 to the zeiss 70-200.
