I get the obvious. The master primes are more expensive they are from the optical gods, etc.

Has anyone used the wider Master Primes (12 - 16mm) in 6K on the dragon? How does it hold up?

In addition what's everyone's favorite wide angles to use on the dragon (12mm - 21mm range)?

I'm having a tough debate for an upcoming shoot about going with the 15mm CP2 to get the extra coverage and save some weight on the Movi but wondering if I'm losing so much optically that I will regret it.

Thanks!

AT 2.8 most of the differences between many lenses go away. Even between a Master Prime and a CP2. The quality differences of most lenses can mostly be seen wide open.
Almost all lenses have their peak functionality around 5.6 The Leica Summilux C's were optimized for wide open usage. However, it is the Quality control across a set of lenses that often count more in cinema. The other issue is of course breathing. CP2's breathe considerably more. I own the 15mm CP2. I find the breathing minimal. Further, its a great lens even wide open in terms of lack of CA and good sharpness. Excellent rectilinear qualities too. However, it does not open to 1.4 either. So really, this variable of what stop you will be shooting at is what makes the most difference in terms of your choices.

I haven't used a MP below 18 and my lowest cp2 is 21mm, but I can comment on the second question.
MP is rectilinear even at 21mm, while my cp2 starts to have that wide angle curve feel at 21mm. MP 18-25 also allows huge amount of reframing since it's rectilinear. Thus the 18mm mp can even be used on close up face shots, though i prefer 100mm feel.
I find the for shallow depth of field, the bokeh of the mp is superior to my cp2 across the board. Also there is no breathing on the master prime, which allows options on close focus with wide angles lens (really gives "depth" to a shot). For vfx having no deformations on wide angle MP's is really nice for the post guys.

My favorite wide angle on the Dragon is the Voigtlander 12mm with a nd center spot and ca correction through plugins and the http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leica-Super...355?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item234adfa5f3 with Zeiss technology in the body but Leica coatings.

If money is not an issue I'll use the 8r or the http://www.abelcine.com/store/Arri-UWZ-9.5-18mm-Ultra-Wide-Zoom/ (mother, father AND grandparents - from both families - of all wide angles) also... this new one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI_gHK5hqnE

I'm using MPs for TVCs regularly. The 14mm is a brilliant lens, rectarlinear, very sharp and contrasty from corner to corner, no portholing, and it covers 6KHD on the Dragon.

The CP2 Zeiss lenses are said to be good lenses but obviously play in a different league. For my personal use I own an Angenieux DP 16-42 which is a good lens for many applications. But like my Super Speeds I don't use it on most TVCs because it's simply not close to that what MPs are able to deliver if vibrancy and high gloss are the main goals of the photography.

Thanks Hans. Do you have any 14mm on 6kHd online? I'd love to see how your handling it.

I I keep hearing the 18mm vignettes but the 14 does not?
