  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zacuto ZRED Zwivel

Looks great! Serves everyone who doesn't want to pay a lot.

But "over engineered"? Really?

"You get what you pay for."

Nice quote from Steve on the Zacuto product design process:

"Sometimes when we are doing product design, we'll put certain tap holes or certain clamps here and there, and we literally have no idea how or why you would use that."

:)

it really ads two new movements.

it really ads two new movements.

Matthew,
Not really. The difference between the ZRED and the new ZRED Zwivel is the Zwivel can rotate the monitor up and down and swivel it perpendicular to the camera or any space in-between. It adds two new movements. Check out the video if you get a chance. http://vimeo.com/3109061 We show the monitor going in a lot of crazy positions. I love how you can get it in the rear of the camera for when you are on a dolly. It truly can be mounted anywhere and in any position. Also, you can get the Zred from any of our international dealers, see list: http://www.zacuto.com/dealers.htm

One issue I have with the red arm (which I am assuming others have as well) is that especially when trying to go handheld and repositioning the viewfinder with one hand is impossible when it becomes loose. Is there a way with the zred that it can have friction so that it can still be moved but not locked down so you don't have to keep loosening/tightening just to move it, but enough to keep it in place?

I just got a Zwivel a week ago and it's working great! Gets the job done, is rock solid and inexpensive. Got a great price from Abel Cinetech.

Got the Zwivel today. Well, I'm not very happy, just can't set up a convenient hand held mode.
Maybe I'm really stupid but I can NOT mount it anywhere and in any position...
well, the EVF is too far away from the cam, I have to look with the left eye. Or I have to mount it too high/low (and also look up/down all the time).
What I don't understand: Why is there that long 15mm rod on the EVF mount (I mean that for tilt). It always collide with the cam or the lens.
So if you would replace the rod with a short one, THEN you could mount it anywhere and in any position.

Okay, the good thing is: it's really rock solid. If you have the RED on a head, the Zwivel works well.

Steve, do you have a 15mm Rod with a length of 1,5" - 2" (instead the original 5")?

I have to shoot this Friday in hand held mode and probably mount the EVF with an UCLS system. It's too bad that I can't use the Zwivel on that job.

Zacuto,
I think you have to improve the Zwivel.

I had my shoot on Friday and I worked with the Zwivel. But only because I had cut the tilt rod in the middle. Otherwise it would not have gone.

I need the viewfinder in height of my eye and not above or lower (hand held mode). Especially when I work with the RED, where it should be possible to mount anything anywhere.

Thanks.
