  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zacuto steps it up?

ENG is not a 4 letter word

ENG is not a 4 letter word

The quality of execution remains to be seen, but

ITS ABOUT FRACKING TIME!

The Control Grip, if it works well, is a HUGE step forward for a lot of shooting situations. In traditional Cine land anything associated with ENG shooting was derided and dismissed. As an operator I'm happy to have top flight ACs to assist me, but I've also had noob ACs bone my shots. I also work in a variety of genres and many of them are not going to throw down for a proper camera department or a wireless FF. I also really dig servo grip control that I can rig to a positionable handle, having shot with the Cabrio I quickly found that when the rig was balanced my right hand was up by my ear. Its no big deal for a couple of minutes at a time but try shooting all day with your arm in that position.

I worked off a VCT style baseplate for many years and its the fastest shoulder to sticks back to shoulder system I've ever used. The slide plate for ARRI dovetail on the ET Mantis got the job done, but even with practice it was awkward - especially with a loaded rig. If you have an AC and no rush you're golden, solo and on the clock - NOT.

I look forward to seeing the EVF at NAB, I love the concept of being able to use the same viewfinder on various cameras. Hopefully there will be a 2.0 version because if you really want to make the one EVF to rule them all - 1280 horizontal, even OLED, is not enough.

Cheers - #19

Pretty 3D renderings of cool concepts. If only we could actually use the images like this that manufacturers post in our daily work

Pretty stoked to see someone do an EVF other then RED. Especially if it uses the same connection as RED's LCD/EVF's.

Curious to see what the cost would be as well. Looks like it'd be a bit closer size wise to the bomb then the current option Zacuto has.

Same here, hopefully it also has a better mounting option than the current Zacuto EVF (bottom 3/8" screw...no go). Although I'd like to see it smaller, I can actually pull focus on it while operating since the image is decently sized unlike the bomb EVF where I can't do critical focus.

I love the ENG/ sony V mount quick release plate. I've always wondered what's taken accessory makers so long to incorporate this no brainer. I can't stand dovetail shoulder rigs as they're a POA to get on /off and raise the CG and weight. That said, Shape beat Zacuto to the punch with an excellent battle tested V mount ENG style rig two years ago. Super slick and one hand adjustable while on your shoulder.

The baseplate looks superb, almost exactly what I've been trying to find - I just hope the VCT plate can be replaced with a regular tripod quick-release plate for those of us who don't use the ENG style plates.

Zacuto also do the best false colour outside of Sound Devices, so that new EVF should be great.

Same. This is why I got a loupe made of Carbon Fiber for the touch screen for my personal use.

But rentals seem to want EVF's and I can't justify the cost of the Bomb for my experiences with it and don't care for anything else on the market so far. Hoping Zacuto is onto something.
