  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zacuto Gratical HD Micro Oled EVF

So what do you think of your Gratical Chris?

It's REALLY NICE!! Definitely worth it in my opinion. Probably the best EVF I have ever put my eye in. Amazingly sharp, lots of customizability, and tools needed for professional DPs/camera ops.

Chris, I know you've saw the BM EVF. Can you talk about the differences that you see a bit. Thanks.

If you're referring to the actual EVF on the Ursa cams, I only briefly looked inside, as I wasn't really interested in the URSA offerings. There are so many EVF options out there today. Some try to have a monitor/EVF combo, which personally, I don't think is the best solution for someone looking for an EVF. Buy an EVF that's sole purpose is an EVF, not a hybrid, which in most cases you'll get much better clarity, user options, resolution, etc.

A lot of people are raving about SmallHD's 502 with Sidefinder. I HATED it. It crops way too much of the image, which means in EVF mode, you're not seeing the entire frame. SUCKS! The monitor as a monitor is great, but not as an EVF.

Zacuto's Gratical HD is great, but it's expensive. Zacuto was really well known for the Z-Finder EVF, which I had back in the DSLR days. I even used that EVF with my Epic, and felt confident in pulling accurate focus when I was solo operating. Now with their recent release, I'm blown away by the quality of the screen. It's nice to have something that is color accurate, has a crazy resolution, has built in scopes/waveforms, and works with ANY camera that can output SDI/HDMI.

Now would I want to pay over $3k for an EVF..most likely not since I do a lot of MoVI work. It's definitely worth the $3k, but would I buy one at a hefty discount, heck yes!

The Zacuto Gratical HD Group buy with full details will be live on April 28 and will last 2 days, closing on April 30. Discounts will be made public, but will only last 2 days, and only be listed here on RU, so you'll have 2 days to get in on the list if you're not on the list already. I will also post the list of all those currently in on the group buy (currently at 16 people).
