  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

YouTube goes HD

Wow. Wonder if it is possible to embed the HD version on an external website. I'll have to look into that...

To me, this is just less lower definition. HD is supposed to be *high* definition... this still looks mediocre (obviously less mediocre than before). The cynic in me says that people are slapping the letters HD on whatever they are marketing...

*I watch a lot of Youtube.

this is totally true, but this is way more watchable and presentable so I'm all for it.

This is a great forum (and site) and I don't want to be tagged as a spammer, but there are some great (and Free) options out there for professionals. Feel free to check out www.videopros.com . Our "HD" option is not quite ready, but I've seen some or our Flash transcodes at around 1700kB that look great. It's not HD obviously. But as someone pointed out earlier...it's much better than the offerings before.

Cheers,
Layne

Layne, I looked at your site and read the About page but I'm still a little unclear on what your company does. Is it basically a way to network and provide some info and showreels about production companies and cinematography services, etc?

Could you tell us in a couple sentences how your site would be useful to the average joe here?

thanks

YTHD is still far from any HD

I find the encodes to be very clean if the footage is proper. Regardless of the better options, I'm glad that I'm starting to find better quality videos on YouTube. It's nice to see an HD option for Youtube. :)

480 x 855 pixels, that´s 410400 pixels, in my part of the world (pal) SD is 414720 pixels, so NO I don´t concider this to be HD at all.
But it is a vast improvement over their previous quality, often just referred to as "you tube quality" which would instantly send a message that the technical quality was crap.

480p

480p

Technically 480P IS ENHANCED DEFINITION, what's on You Tube is definitely not an HD format.
