  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Your Top 5 Movies of the 2000s.. so far?

In no particular order, and with nowhere near enough thought, just some personal nominations.

No Country For Old Men
Hotel Rwanda
Walk The Line
Anchorman
Little Miss Sunshine
V For Vendetta
The Departed
Crash
In Burges
Michael Clayton
The Hangover
The Notebook
Spanglish
Donnie Darko
The Bourne Identity
Zombie Strippers

Can you guess which was just a joke?

I'm doing a top ten...

1 - shotgun stories
2 - Adventureland
3 - Let the right one in
4 - The squid and the whale
5 - Noise (aussie film)
6 - Clint's last 4 films
7 - The square (aussie film)
8 - ....still thinking

EDIT: Forgot, into the wild, Loved you so long... the list goes on.

No order (and I only have four):

Amelie (Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain)
This movie is possibly my all-time favourite. The colour correction looks maybe a little ham-fisted in parts now, but on the whole works very well. Everything just clicks with me in this film, especially the little touches (and this is a film of little touches).

The Fountain
If 2001: A Space Odyssey hadn't already been there, this would have been much better. Quite possibly the only Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weiss performances I really liked.

There Will Be Blood
A tour de force.

Synecdoche, NY
What can I say? Beautiful and moving.

I must say that i thought the fountian was one of the worst films i have ever seen. it was a real challenge to get through.

The Fountain
If 2001: A Space Odyssey hadn't already been there, this would have been much better. Quite possibly the only Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weiss performances I really liked.

Jackman would get my #1 slot for best male acting performance of this decade for The Fountain. It was an incredibly ballsy performance. It was no surprise that Darren was able to get an amazing performance out of Mickey Rourke as well.

Did anyone see 'Wristcutters' Tom waits gives a great performance in that. 'The puff chair' is another film with great performances. Also liked Junebug. Also couldn't go past Happy go Lucky.

Didn't enjoy Jackman in The Fountain. Found the whole thing indulgent. Thought the wrestler was great and look forward to the fighter.

Hey Tom, i assume you have seen Day's of heaven. I recently watched sean penn's 'The indian runner' it reminded me of day's of heaven and i have been meaning to revisit it. I think sean penn is an underrated filmmaker. perhaps he will become the next eastwood. After the indian runner he said he'd ever act again but that has sinse been proven incorrect.

I wasn't real impressed with what Penn did with "Into the Wild." That's one of my alltime favorite books, and I thought Penn did a mediocre job with the material. Malick would have made it incredible.

i'd trust penn with 'The Catcher in the rye' if salinger would allow it.

No Country for Old Men
The Royal Tenenbaums
In the Mood for Love
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
City of God

i'm sure there could be a few more to play in that Top-5 group, but all fantastic films that have left an indelible impression on my heart, mind, and soul as a filmmaker and a human being.

if we were going 90's, i'd have to throw in:

Heat
The Big Lebowski
The Thin Red Line

if we went to the 80s i'd have to start off with:

The Running Man (just kidding, but kinda...no, not really, but seriously, PREDATOR)

2000 Memento
2002 Sympathy for Mr Vengeance
2005 History of Violence
2006 Children of Men
2008 Rachel Getting Married

Little Miss Sunshine
Oldboy
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Donnie Darko
Caché

were some good ones, but there are more. Some people in here have a soppy, disgusting, blockbuster hollywood taste, but I won't call names. :)
