Someone called me that in class today and I think its true. I'm 18 and have a Scarlet on the way. Challenge/confirm?

Lol, nvm then. Damn 16..... what the f. Who needs a RED in high school?

Someone who has very rich parents perhaps and wanted a new toy to play with

I knew a guy when I was in high school that never spent a dime. His senior year he went out and bought a brand new truck, cash. Some people just know what they want and are willing to save for it.

Perhaps in the near future more trust fund babies will be making their own films, instead of financing someone else's.

There are plenty of trust fund baby filmmakers. Often times money is the only way to get a leg up, and can make a startling difference between having the creative freedom and time to begin making a film versus a person who has to work constantly, with no time to mull over projects. Take a look at some of your favorite directors and look at which zip codes they grew up in.

If anything having 35mm quality digital cameras this cheap is leveling the playing field more every day. Whether that is a good thing or not is up for debate. All I will say that I am very happy.

I understand that, I was merely suggesting that maybe more of them will take a cinematography role rather than exec produce, though I'm certain there are plenty who already do.

I find it mildly humorous that people feel the need to discount what young people are doing because they think rich parents are the result of us doing big things. At the same time, I think it's pretty low that some resort to such talk.

I don't have to prove anything, but for your info, there are people like me who grew up in Middle America in a family of 7 kids, in a 14x66ft mobile home. Through hard work, determination, and being blessed with friends who believe in people like me, we are able to more than double the investment of an EPIC in less than a year.

16, 20, 19? Best of luck to you and yours...

Totally agree with your words Joseph ! I bought my first camcorder at 18yo for around 1000€ (equivalent), noone trusted me and... well I don't want to copy but I had no idea what I was doing... ;) Two months later i doubled the money. Age is not an issue, one thing that is important is to be serious in your work.

I think it is a good thing to get the best technology into the youngest hands as fast as possible. It is healthy for the future of innovation. No doubt this is why Ted is championing a camp experience for kids to make films using RED gear.

Am I jealous of these kids? Hell, yes I am - but not because they have great toys. I'm jealous of their energy, focus, and drive! Those are the "tools" that I wish I had, at that age.
