  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Yet another Inexpensive mattebox and follow focus thread...

Thanks Alvise.

It's a tricky one. I owned the Shoot35 follow focus and it was okay for what it was, and never let me down back when I was using Canon and Samyang glass; and when it came out there wasn't too much competition at that price point. However, since then I used the Tilta follow focus with hard stops and it felt a lot better built but a part of me is still thinking to bite the bullet and buy the follow focus that I will never need to upgrade, whch is where the Arri/ O'Conner talk comes in.

Was really hoping by now there would be something in between those two prices ranges that would do the job for me but apparently not.

I have the Edelkrone FocusOne Pro on my radar, has anyone played with that one?

The flags never stay in place more than 10 seconds.?

Not brilliant. Usable but more as a filter holder than a mattebox. The flags never stay in place more than 10 seconds.

no. the screw always comes loose even after I added some glue to the thread to make a tighter thread.

Ohw Okay..
and you know other Proaim Model MB?
And witch best For R1? (inexpensive)

I bought what looks to be a Redrock copy off amazon for around $200 for a show vs renting. It's lighter and the filter trays are plastic but it's been holding up remarkably well. Can't find the link unfortunately. Anyone else buy one of these?

I bought this piece of shit to appease a friend and I hate it. So big it's like a parody of a mattebox and the filter trays won't accept glass filters. Cross threaded garbage.

I like the entry level redrock FF for cheap.

Must be a different unit because mine takes every filter I own.

???

Both are rip offs of the ARRI MFF-2 (minus interchangeable knobs and the funky push lock hard stops)

I've used both the Tilta and the Movcam (only the bigger ARRIs), and they both felt quite nice. I thought the build quality and feel of the Movcam was slightly better.

Ah ok cool. I've used the Tilta and it seemed pretty solid with stills glass, and the hard stops and quick release made it more practical than my old Shoot35 one. Will see what they're going for in the UK

Thanks for your input :)

I'd thoroughly recommend checking out the Movcam. I think it's around the same sort of price. I think CVP stock them both.

we got this follow focus: http://www.cinevate.com/store2/camera-accessories/follow-focus.html
it's very durable and we're very happy with it.

and the redrock micro matte box, also very happy with it: http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalog/microMatteBox-for-15mm-Lightweight/microMatteBox-Deluxe-Bundle

+1 for Cinevate Follow Focus. Beware cheap follow-focusses/ Cinevate's has no lash, but many have a lot of slop you can see in your shots. If you're going to skimp, skimp on the mattebox, because it does not directly affect shot quality, whereas the follow-focus does.
