  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

These are from a short I've just directed. Editing is due to lock off in a few days and then grading and sound will commence. I was wondering if anyone would be awesome/interested in having a stab at any of these to give us some ideas of where to take it with the grade?

I think the white balance is a little crazy in the metadata on some shots (they've been corrected in premiere source settings but that doesn't seem to carry over to red cine x when I go there to export r3d snapshots).

I know the DP shot the scene in the laundromat for a white balance of 4200 (some of the r3d's are at 5000).

The lounge room scenes are quite underexposed and I'd be really thankful if anyone could show a nice way to go with one of those stills. I've attached a bunch of jpegs n link to the r3d's on dropbox.

Thanks - any ideas would be appreciated. Still learning how to tap the grading potential of RED.

felt like a dark film from all the stills so I went that direction. the low light bedroom was challenging - it's fortunate the walls are green because you can separate them out w/ a qualifier to create some depth in an otherwise flat shot. i'm curious - what was the light setup for the 'pointing gun to head' shot?

all done in resolve, needed power windows and some of the other tools that RCX doesn't have

Wow nice work Arthur thankyou!

Yeah the lounge room wasnt really lit properly imo. It was the last scene of a long night already over schedule and I just had to get it rolling :scared:

I know there was a blonde with a (half or full ctb) gel on it out the window.. and a red head which was black wrapped to create a narrow beam of light just hitting the actor in his initial position. But after that when the actors are in close the light thats hitting them is from the ceiling hall light behind (out of shot). They r standing in the doorway.

Thanks again for ur work mate really appreciate it and love the look. And yes u r right. Dark film thematically
