  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

X-wing launch ... really

Well, that was... lame.

Someone needs to show those dudes how to build a rocket.

That was lame, I bet they didn't even wind tunnel or load test that thing. Amateurs.

Actually, if you noticed at the end, their real rocket seemed to do well. What I'm left wondering is why didn't we get to see the Y-wing fire off?

Actually the X-wing did better than I expected it to after hearing what it was constructed from. They could have at least attempted to get the center of gravity in the actual center of the rockets, then it wouldn't have flipped less than half way through its burn cycle only to tear itself apart. But with its construction, it was doomed for failure, regardless of how well balanced it could have been. What can I say... Model rocketry is a hobby of mine and I've built some pretty big ones over the years. The other "normal" rocket launched at the end of the video looked pretty good. I've worked with other like-minded hobbyists and have built and launched such rockets... It's definitely an eerie feeling when we would sometimes launch a big rocket like that and it would go up, up and out of site, never to be seen again.

We would launch them out in the desert or salt flats, usually it's not an issue. But there's been once or twice, the "oh, shit. where'd it go???" got a little intense. Hehe.

Hehe, I was thinking that too... Its flight path brought it pretty close to all the spectator vehicles. Not to mention the people it landed pretty close to.. If it hadn't flipped so soon or broke apart the way it did, it could have landed on those cars pretty easily or the people it missed by about 50 feet.

Wonder what happened to the Y-Wing. It looks like it may have flown better than the X-Wing. A google search reveals a Y-Wing rocket launch, but it doesn't appear to be from the same event... Can't tell because it was shot from so far away.

I think this pic came from the same event as the X-Wing.

Hey, that's the same trajectory and ending of the latest Clone Wars animation.

this video is all kinds of awesome, IMO!

I think that they built and blow it just for fun. But launch was pretty unsafe for everybody around.
