4K Support New!
Vegas Pro 9 software natively supports frame sizes up to 4096x4096. The 4K image standard for digital cinema projection is 4096 x 2160 pixels. This level of resolution provides more detail and flexibility to pan and crop. It is ideal for compositing and video effects work, as it provides a high-quality final output. Vegas Pro 9 software also natively supports RED ONE™ files. You can open and edit .r3d files directly on the timeline as you would any other video file.

No, No, F#@$ing awesome. I love Vegas Pro

hurrah! Thats great news! Vegas is always priced more competitively than most NLEs which will pair well with the Scarlet.

Looks like it might be a cost effective solution for my Vista 64bit laptop and Scarlet. How is the sound editing and recording capability in Vegas?

Vegas has killer audio tools, compared to protools. I've been a long time nuendo user so i prefer to export an AAF into nuendo but only for features.
for corporates/commercials, nothing beats vegas in audio NLE wise.

Can Vegas record live sound with timecode, or do you have to import audio?

good question, i dont know, never had to do it. I know it supports import of BWF with metadata, thats what i do.

I recently got a MOTU ultraliteMK3 firewire preamp for acoustic analysis work. It was one of two rated "A" for the FFT sofware package, and had the added bonus of full support for SMPTE linear timecode at all common framerates. It can sync to external source or act as reference clock for jam sync with a camera.
Ideally I would like to set the Motu and the laptop to record audio at acoustic music events, jamsync the camera and be free to roam with it.

sounds interesting, probably you're best bet is to go on the vegas pro audio section or contact sony about this workflow, i honestly cant comment on the ability to import live timecode

It looks from that settings panel that Vegas has more complete decode support than Adobe. WTF Adobe, where's the update???!!! REC-709 is killing me.

dont worry my neighbour, most of us dont, research comes early but most of it you'll worry about when having the camera in your hand and asking questions.
