  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anybody else have this issue or a solution?

I installed and updated all the software necessary to support the new Log and Transfer workflow into FCP and now none of my _H proxies nor the rewrapped R3ds will play back in realtime on the timeline (The rewrapped R3d native files will if video out is turned off). Before this I could cut the _H proxies no problem in realtime with output through a Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme at 1080P. But now even with output disabled I can't get the _H proxies to playback properly!

Any advice would be appreciated.

The only Idea I would have is looking for new drivers for the Black Magic card.

Did you check if you somehow changed the video quality from dynamic to somehtingelse? In my case, even with 8 core with RAID system, I wasn't able to do H proxies in realtime.

Hey I am having the same problem with my quicktime proxies not playing back in the fcp timeline. I reverted back to 3.1 and it still didn't work. Is there something I need to throw away and re-install or am I missing something? I want to still be able to edit with the proxy files?

Any help would be great!

Revert back to fcp 6.0.4!

Where can I find an update of 6.0.4 and can I open projects in 6.0.4 that I have already opened in 6.0.5?

Thanks!

"Half standard" or "half high" in the preference pane?

4K HD proxies, problems with playback.

Is this a Final Cut Preference that I can choose?

I've notice that if I edit with 4k 16:9 if I change the RT to Low or High it affects the quality of the playback and I am able to play full frame rate on my M (I am editing now with a MacBook Pro... I know it is not the best way, but I can greatly use proxies in M mode.)

But now If I shoot 4k HD mode, which I think It is supposed to be better for speed as we end up on a 1080 directly with the H, It is very strange.

If I put the H, I get the RT mode, but it doesnt matter what Full, Low or Dynamic setting I use, it always stays on Full, so my frame rate is really low.

If I decide to go lower and use the M, then I don't even get the RT mode!!, and it goes directly to Render (Red bar) If I change the settings of the sequence to Redcode, the red bar disappears and i can edit, but if apply effects I can't render them.

What's wrong with the Proxies and 4K HD? Is there any way to work around these issues without having to do the Long and Transfer?

Thanks,

IC

It's in the system preferences for your mac, a special RED preference pane to choose decode quality.

Thanks Graeme,

I forgot about that tab :-)

But unfortunately it doesn't affect the performance of the 4K HD proxies in Final cut.

4KHD _H : Always full quality RT, = very low frame rate:
4KHD _M or _P : Red render bar. No RT. How can if it is much smaller resolution?

Is this because of build 17 being too new for Final Cut?. Because of this I will have to end up shooting on 4K 16:9 . With my system it is impossible to edit it with the 4K HD proxies.

Thanks,

IC

You probably have to re-start FCP and Quicktime after changing the preference pane.

Unfortunately this is not working. I restarted but still no luck. It is quite unfortunate because I was able to edit _M quicktimes perfectly and now my whole Proxies workflow just doesn't work.

I thought it was only the 4K HD but I just re opened one project that I edited without any problem and it was 4K 16:9 and now it plays so slowly.

unfortunately I don't know whether it is a problem for upgrading to the new FCP or the New Recode FCP install or maybe the lastest quicktime. I can't recall when this thing started to happened. I tried to downgrade to quicktime 7.5.5 with the pacifist trick, but no luck.

Could anybody confirm that you can get good frame rate playback with _M proxies? My system is not the best, but it is a brand new laptop and a week ago I was able to edit them, so I know it is not a hardware problem.

I did some test and these are the results. If anyone know something I am missing, please let me know. I haven't tried to downgrade my final cut because the sent to Color option is way too good, but it definitively makes in my case editing with proxies really difficult, and that's really bad for my workflow.

Thanks for your help.

IC

Test:
MAC OS X 10.5.5
MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1067 MHZ DDR3
Final Cut 6.0.5
Quicktime 7.5.7

4K 16:9 :

_P Proxies
prores HD settings: Needs to Render (Red Bar)
Redcode Settings: No render needed. No RT. No drop frames. Playback quality drops. Feels like it is RT playback dynamic

_M Proxies
prores HD settings: RT Orange. RT slightly affects quality playback, not letting play at full frame rate or even close. (4 , 8 fps? )
Redcode Settings: It doesn't affect. Same as Proress (RT orange bar but without possibility of render effects, text..)

_H Proxies (Exactly same performance as _M Proxies. And the Viewer size doesn't affect performance)

4K HD : (Max record mode ON/OFF no apparent difference)

_P Proxies
prores HD settings: Needs to Render (Red Bar)
Redcode Settings: No render needed. No RT. No drop frames. Playback quality drops. Feels like it is RT playback dynamic

_M Proxies (same as _P proxies)
prores HD settings: Needs to Render (Red Bar)
Redcode Settings: No Render needed. No RT. Close to real time playback if Viewer set to 50%. Playback quality drops. Feels like it is RT playback dynamic

_H Proxies
prores HD settings: RT Orange. Play always at full quality independent of RT Low/Med/High. Play back frame rate very slow
Redcode Settings: Orange Line disappears. No RT. Close to real time playback if Viewer set to 25% At 50% pretty bad framerate.

Hi, I've done the FCP 6.0.5 / Redcode updates but can't find anything RED in system preferences. Just getting familiar with Native R3D ingest (which is amazing BTW) and am trying to find a decode quality selector.

Thanks for any help.

Is this a Final Cut Preference that I can choose?

It's a system preference pane available in the standalone "RED QUICKTIME CODEC (BETA)" installer. It's not included in the "RED Final Cut Studio 2 Installer" package.
