Looking to buy a used Red One camera. I'm a college student (selling my car to buy it), so i dont really need $10,000 in accessories. So just to be clear I'm not looking for penny-pinching seller who wants to get every dime that he payed for it. I'm looking for a used, working camera and im not worried about it being in mint condition.

So to recap; college film-maker finishing up degree in 3d design and animation and looking for a used red-one camera to "run and gun."

my email is:

philanthropy welcome :)

you're definitely in the wrong field, you should be a producer -

"Want everything for as cheap as possible, preferably free...not offering much in return. I'll order a large pizza for the cast and crew."

just teasing... :ciappa:

good luck finding one...there are some hungry camera owners out there...

Haha. Remember, college student :001_tongue: so with the small group of guys that I film with, I am the "producer" a lot of the time.
But hey, everyone has to start some place, and I figure if "4k is the way" I'd like to get on the train.

And thanks for the replies i've gotten so far. Still looking.

Justin, in case you're not aware, there is a basic trade-in value for all of the cameras out there -- so, in fact, I would not expect a big discount from whatever anyone "payed" (sic) for the body itself -- although you may get lucky. Good to bear in mind Red itself values the body at 9K without an MX sensor (or with for that matter, but nobody is going to be turning those in I imagine.) So 9K would be a realistic bottom line price for a Red without an MX sensor -- and you'll need about 2-3K (used price from not a penny-pincher, as you so elegantly put it) to make the camera minimally functional.

Good luck with your quest.

Thank you for that. I am aware that the Red 1 is a quite expensive camera even when sought to be purchased used. I am newer to the community and since the Epic program started I know many people are selling their R-1s and I am hoping to find a little bit of a deal somewhere. I will take all the advice into consideration, thank you.

All RED *bodies* kept for stage 3 are now worth $17500 as trade-in. I can't imagine there are many who will sell theirs for $9000 now...

Just my 2 "penny pinching" cents...

Okay just to make few notes, they are in fact many EXECUTED R1, for sale for 9K and up, one was sold for 8K and one is still available for 8K but not deliverable till He get his Epic-X.

As far as those intending to go stage 3, well their camera would not and can not be sold as that is Stage 3, meaning that in order for you to enter Stage 3 you have to actually send in the R1, o no stage 3 for you ;~).

So to recap the only available R1's for sale will be the One which have already been Executed in Stage 2, which will be in the 9K range, some lower some higher, and or those which will wish to sale their NON EXECUTED r1's so that the buyer can actually get in to stage 3, but this off course will be worth not only the full 17.5k but additionally will bare the full value of the Epic-X offerings from RED.

So, good luck with your search Justin, and if you are willing to go near 10K for your used R1 you will find plenty available.

Some EXECUTED R1's are listed all here: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=44679

Remember that once these executed R1 bodies have been MX upgraded, they will be worth more than full price new R1's. Therefore, ship date (place in line for MX) is a major cost/value factor.

Yes Michael, correct, but with more and more coming out there is still plenty of R1's which will go for a very reasonable price, few of which I see sale for 13.5K MXed!!

I guess the 9K for the Executed R1 + the MX upgrade put at the discounted price of 4.5K, a good deal for the Buyer but also not a bad deal for the seller going to Epic-X stage 2.

Fact is that Red has treaded Reduser so good that there is space to pass along some to new upcoming Redusers with a lesser of a budget, and don't forget Scarlet S35, once that is out the game fort eh R1's wi change again, even so obviously Specs for each differ, but still something to bring in to consideration.

Ketch, that isn't a list of executed R1's but a list of those who were trying to sell them before the deadline...

...and while some others did sell theirs for 9 or 10k, at least one sold their MXd RED for a premium of several thousand dollars. Of course a RED One with a s/n of 7023 will not fetch the same price since they may very well be eligible for an MX upgrade in many many months...

Actually, that list is meant to be a list of currently for-sale RED Ones, to make it easier for potential buyers to get an overview, and a service to sellers so their ad doesn't get buried. The list was set up independently of any deadline.

Personally, I think you'll have a very hard time finding an executed R1 for under 10k now that the deadline has passed.
