WTB: Shoulder Rig for Red One, Recommendations?

Hi Jochen,

Edit: Oh, just read the rest of the thread. Of course you are still welcome.

Hi!

I would like to buy a Shoulder-Rig for my Red One.

Actionproducts? Allstar?

What do you use? What would you recommend?

Norbert

Norbert, I have found that the Mantis makes the Camera sit to high on the shoulder. I use the Red universal cross bar with handles, Then I attach a 15mm top mount to that. This slides on the front 15mm rod system from the base plate assembly. Shoulder pad velcros to bottom of camera. This system is cost effect as well as low profile. It is simple to go from a studio mode to HH right away. Hope this helps!

There's 2 modes I use:

1. Kneeling pad on my shoulder, and I hold onto the matte box,

2. Easy Rig. I love it.

Not a big fan of the Mantis, but that's just me. Some people really seem to like it, so you should try one. But also try an Easy Rig. Especially if you have to go all day.

Maybe Allstar shoulder rig isn`t the "best", but it can provide very low height/center of gravity when working with Allstar Base. The wider shoulder let you feel comfortable. It also could work with Arri base plate like Mantis. With the new handle bar, it will be more soilder than mounting by the rod clamper.

check out the C1 Pro-Rig from cinemecanix... I use it for all day situations and it accommodates all my accessories. Its so well balanced I can actually let it go.

I used the Mantis recently and found it to be okay. I haven't tried the SHAPE 7000 V-LOCK QUICK RELEASE BASEPLATE rig but it looks a lot more versatile and only slightly more expensive.
