  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

WTB Set of Ultra Prime

Regarding Ultra Primes vs. Unique Optics prime lens:
I've seen them on an Arri test bench checking for MTF
and resolution charts. All the numbers and visual feedback
put U.O. primes in the same league as Ultra primes.
Now do the math.

your right David but is there any guaranty that they will hold their value years from now?what about the rental value are they same as zeiss? Me i don't think so!!!! but with no duet they are good lenses

There is no guarantee that anything will hold its value. If you buy the Ultra's today, they are not future proof with larger sensors in the future if you want the full field of view.

My colleague tells me there is developing interest by DOPs in U.O. primes as an alternative to Ultra primes. The lens U.O. lens I tested were also beautifully manufactured and built like a tank.

It really comes down to value for money unless your clients are specifically demanding Ultras. Buy a set of U.O. for $32,000 verses much more for Ultras.

Also, what if Canon and Fuji start making more PL mount lens? Then there will be many more lens on the market and bringing down the price of lens holding value.

There's no doubt as to what gives you the best price as a renter. UO/RPP's won't give you the same rental income. Which makes total sense, as rental prices usually are a % of the purchasing price...

Buying glass for a rental, UP/MP's are a safe bet.
Buying glass for your own use RPP's/UO's seems good starting points.

Edit: sorry for getting involved... I wish you luck with your UP's!
