FOUND A SCARLET: NO LONGER LOOKING TO BUY. THANK YOU ALL!

Hi all,

I am in Vancouver, BC Canada and thinking of buying a Red Scarlet package. It looks like I can get one for about $9,000 CAD for a basic running package.
What are the chances of me making my return on this by renting it out? It seems like I could get $300 a day. But how rentable are scarlets m-x ? Is this a viable opportunity to rent out the camera, make back at least 80% of my purchase, and then have a RED camera to use at my disposal ? Does anyone have experience with this?

Let me know,

Cheers

I think every market is different. I'm in Orlando where there isn't much a film industry but I still manage to rent out my RED package once every two weeks? I didnt buy it for the sole purpose of renting out though, so when it rents it just extra $$.

But I rented my entire package just last week for 800$. I usually get between $500-800, but I rent as a package with lenses and lights. hope that helps.

Great to know. The film industry here in Vancouver is pretty large I am sure you have heard .. I hope.. haha. We are right behind LA / New York, and think we have passed Toronto.

If you buy a Scarlet be prepared to pay for the entire purchase cost. Rentals are not guaranteed and also risky unless you have experience in that area -thus have your business side of things fully in place before starting to dream of any rental income. I don't know your situation, but unless you have already established outlets for a rental business, be prepared to make all the payments (or be able to spend the $$) yourself. Sure there are more and more filmmakers in Vancouver but are they going to come and rent YOUR camera? Why? Not trying to be a downer about being a Scarlet owner -just pointing out some food for thought before you send your $$$. Owning a RED is great if you can afford to be an owner, or is it more feasible to rent one yourself when you need it?

Thanks guys! Yep, I think it'd be worth it. Going to have my hands on one this week it seems!
