I been scouring ebay lately, some decent deals on there on retro stuff... Also been looking at used stuff at rental houses too... Just some words of advice on other potential sources from someone in the same boat as you...

I would actually caution everyone from purchasing expensive lenses on ebay. Most reputable sellers of used lenses will allow the lenses to be inspected by a legitimate and mutually agreed upon lens service company. When you are buying from ebay you have no idea what you're getting, and it's easy to receive poor condition glass in need of optical service or repair. You can not see these things from an auction photo.

Full disclosure, my company sells and services cinema optics. Although we rarely handle used optics and consignment lenses it does happen from time to time. Whenever we do sell used glass we always offer up a 3rd party (like Duclos or Abel) to inspect the glass before the sale. Most of us are not lens experts, so this is the only way I know a buyer can have 100% confidence in what that's being sold is as described.

Cine lenses cost around the same as a car, and the repairs can be more than the purchase price. Some older lenses, are essentially non-repairable as the parts are no longer in existence. Buying off ebay or from an individual without a 3rd party inspection is a serious gamble. I wouldn't buy a Ferrari or even a Toyota without a mechanic taking a look. You shouldn't do the same with cine lenses.
