WTB leica Summicron-R or Summilux-R prime set

Hi Aree,

I was in your situation for a while and pulled the trigger this past month for my set. A set will run you between $8-$12K depending on what lenses. My set is comprised of:

24mm f/2.8 Elmarit-R — 1970 *easy to get and cheap
35mm f/1.4 Summilux-R *hard to get
50mm f/1.4 Summilux-R 3rd version *available
80mm f/1.4 Summilux-R *available
100mm f/2.8 APO-Macro-Elmarit-R *available
135mmf/2.8 Elmarit-R 2nd version *easy to get and cheap

35–70mm f/3.5 Vario-Elmar-R zoom *easy to get and cheap

in the market for these now:
19mm f/2.8 Elmarit-R 2nd version
180mm f/2.8 Elmarit-R 2nd version

and eventually getting these:
60mm f/2.8 Macro-Elmarit-R dn2 version
90mm f/2.0 Summicron-R 2nd version
280mm f/2.8 APO-Telyt-R
70–180mm f/2.8 Vario-APO-Elmarit-R

I took my time and researched hard and bought from one main guy on ebay called George Ohara based in New Jersey, lenses are as described and although he sales them on ebay under buy it now it is reasonably priced and he is trust worthy. His ebay store is: leicagreatbuy others were from ebay and from another guy at getdpi.com(forum)

Things to look for are late series starting with serial number 3****** and the must lens, at least for me, are the 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4 and the 100 2.8 macro. The 35mm f1.4 is hard to get and quiet expensive but I got verry lucky to get an almost brand new in original box for $2500!!!

There are also a couple of people on here selling a set:

Good luck with your search... they are amazing glass.

Cheers

Thank you for your time to write this very helpfull would you know if these will be good for the dragon upgrade? I will take a look on eBay for the guy you recommend I've talked to one guy in your link but he wants $12,000 I had a budget of only $8000 maybe a little more maybe he will feal pitty on me and sell me his set if he reads this :)

Not sure about dragon... I am also curious. Currently they cover 5K.

Also contact Vladmir Eugene on here, he has a set he wanted to sale, although the lens may not be all late series and not sure if he still has them.

And like bob said... you don't have to buy Summilux and will still get the leica look. I was just particular.

I have a Summilux 24mm for sale, mint, with the original box and goodies. I sold my M9 and got a Scarlet, and it can't mount on REDs.

Google is your friend, find good used examples, don't expect this to be a cheap thought but these lenses are superb.

Is that one full stop difference? f2 vs f1.4?

You can save a lot by going with Summicron(f2) versus Summilux(1.4). I have a set using Summicron and Elenmart. Not as fast as 1.4 but still great with the Leica look.
