I'm looking to purchase a light weight Matte Box. I just saw saw that Arri has released the LMB-15. Anyone know what the cost is and difference between the two? Will it work with all current Red lenses?

Best to contact Arri or Abel about that. There are so many configurations it is just too hard to give single answer of the cost. There is a fair bit of information on Arri website.

I have LMB-5 and I love it. It is very light weight, it works with Red 300mm and I am hearing it will work with 18-85 zoom. It will also work with all current Red lenses. You use adapter rings of various sizes to clamp onto the lens.

The LMB-15 is a terrific lightweight mattebox. It is available in a 2-tray or 3-tray configuration. These trays are for 4x5.65 filters and are top load. The trays do not rotate. I'm not sure offhand what the widest back available is as a 142mm ring would be necessary for the new 18-85. I can tell you that 2x 4x5.65 filters will cover this lens as I have tried it with another mattebox (more in a few days!). The advantage of the LMB-15 over the LMB-5 is that it is designed for extremely wide angle lens coverage. If you're wondering about basic mattebox design, think back to those CADs of RED's proposed clip-on mattebox and you're looking at something that's very close to this Arri mattebox. We have an active bundle for special pricing to RedUsers on the LMB-15 that we introduced way back in the beginning of the year. Very good pricing. Feel free to contact us for more info.

And yes, this mattebox clears all the RED lenses (with the caveat of checking mounting on the 18-85).

I have a LMB 15a and I doubt it will work in any real way with the 18-85 even with some home modified back rings. I'm going to have a back cannibalized to go onto a Master diopter which is larger than the 130mm largest back from ARRI

As to the advantage over a LMB 5 I suspect for 35mm work there is none. But as a general tool it seems improved.

regards

Michael

Does anyone have an idea what parts are needed for the RED 300mm to work with the LMB-5? I was sent the wrong the items. I now have the 130mm clamp on which is way to big with out an adapter. The adapter I have is a 117mm but is to big to fit inside the clamp on. Anyone have an idea what part # I need?

Contact us on Monday and we'll sort it out with you.

You need LMB-5 to come with standard 130mm clamp, part number: K2.65103.0, plus you need 117mm adapter ring part number: K2.47685.0.

There is no clamp wide enough for 142mm, so it can not be mounted on 18-85mm.

Do I get a cut on the sale, Mitch?

Just out of curiosity, how are you trying to put that adapter ring into the clamp? You know there is a cutout in the ring, which you are supposed to squeeze with your fingers before inserting into the clamp.

Abu, call me in the morning. I should be available after 9:30. If I'm not at my desk please leave me a voicemail with your phone number.

Thanks Mitch! Sometimes I wish you worked in sales because it's so much easier explaining to someone who is so expeirenced in this field rather than just a sales person.

I won't get into that because now I have to deal with returns and it's a pain in the ass!

Just got off the phone with Mitch and my problems are solved. Got a lot more info than just a wrong piece that will surely help me complete my MB. Thanks again!!!
