  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

WTB: angenieux optimo 24-290 Zoom

Used it on a few jobs.

Massive lens, has a handle and needs it. No breathing, forgot how ramping was - may be none. Pretty fast for such a big zoom. Very expensive 60-70k approx. and very sharp. The sharpest 1-10+ I ever used, like a Zeiss Prime. A 435 looks like ST16 with this lens. Does need a MB14. Technically probably the best zoom lens in the market

Personally I find 24mm to long to start with. A 18-150 for instance would be much more my cup of tea.

EDIT: Got the WTB wrong. That's what happens when you're not a native speaker. But learning: Where To Buy... Sorry for my unreflected answer. The 18-150 was meant hypothetically, meaning if there was a 18-150 Optimo I would rather go for this... Sorry for not making myself clear... Hans

yes, we rent it all the time...thats why I am ready to buy one. This is the preferred lens for rentals over a 18-150.

I was hoping to find a nice used one, but guess I will have to go new.

Crap I just saw one for sale. I cant remember where though.

That's not a conversion... it is sold as new from the factory as a B4 mounted 12 x 9.7mm (9.7mm-117mm) T1.6 HD Optimo zoom lens.

Having said that, all the features that appear on the PL mounted 24mm-290mm Optimo are exactly the same as on this lens, albeit the focal lengths differ due to the 2/3" B4 mount. This is one hell of a lens, all 12kg of it!

The only zoom lens in the World that is comparable is the Panavision 24mm-275mm T2.8 Primo zoom lens... and that's not for sale, only hire.

Then Arri/Zeiss have just released the new Master Zoom which I believe is also only rentable.

Yep Chuck that Isaia one, was the one I saw.

We at Abel Cine Tech can sell you one. But you can get it other ways as well. Not trying to shill; just seems like no one was giving you a solid answer.

it is a highly demanded lens. and yes, the wait list went from 9 months last year to about 60 days now. they caught up, and with the economy being what it is, had people walk away from reservations.

they have been working hard in france. this lens is a workhorse, but not that it will not cover the full 5K at the very wide end. not that that will keep it from renting time and again, as it is a heavily demanded lens.

i was wondering though if optimo would come out with a long 'rouge' lens the same way they have with the shorter lenses.....

Way to dig up a really old thread, Zakaree! :P

But if you're in one of the larger markets, which you are in CA, there's a good chance you can keep that lens busy. I don't know if you'll manage every day, but a couple days a week should be reasonable. Definitely look into it, but don't be surprised if you would have to transport the lens all over the place to facilitate multiple rental houses to actually keep it busy. After all, if a rental house has enough work to keep a lens like that busy 2+ days a week consistently, they would probably buy [another] one themselves.

Anyone interested in purchasing an Optimo 12x should contact me. Anyone interested in placing one into subrental at a rental house that will keep it busy all the time can talk to me as well. ;-)

I heard a rumor that Optimo is going to make a DP version maybe 30-300 for less money. As the 24-290 does not cover the 32mm 5k Epic I think there might be some truth to it.
