Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
Hi
I am looking to but an Angenieux 12-240mm zoom in a good condition.
With PL mount but i will consider also the possibility of adding the mount myself.
Please PM me.
Ewww, really? You want one of those? Try eBay for a couple of hundred buck tops. You do know this ancient glass is only good for 2K on your RED?
Hey, it did the trick for the opening shot of A Clockwork Orange with a 1.6x extender to cover 35mm 1.66, so maybe that's what you're thinking. Of course Kubrick hand-picked his lens from the Angenieux factory.
I think I can find one of these for you but it will be in a C Mount. or possible at best an Arri Bayonet.
You do realize that this lens is ramped Iris and you only get the full 20-1 range at 5.6 or below. Angenieux used to do this when they could not get any quality unless stopped down. The 2.8 stop is only something like 20 - 240mm from memory, which has faded a little.
Let me know. Regards Tonycovell@talktalk.net. London.
Are you sure about that. I believe the f stop was constant. I think the Kubrick 12-240 conversion used a 2x extender which resulted in around T9 or so.
Kubrick used a 1.6x as that would allow the lens to just barely cover a 1.66 frame on standard Academy 35mm.
For those that don't know, this was for the opening shot of A Clockwork Orange, which starts with an extreme closeup of Malcome MacDowell's face and zooms out slowly to a wide shot of the Milk Bar set. Kubrick needed the 20x zoom range of the little Ang. lens and there was no equivalent in 35mm format.
Sure I'm Sure ! Maybe you go up when I go down, a figure of speech BUT Mitch is correct. AT T9 everything is sharp and you will get the full range.
Kubrik may have had the iris removed and gone for a straight T stop he did all sorts of weird things for a one off shot. Later Samuelsons produced a 35mm 20x1 zoom which was the end shot in the True life Hanratty? movie with Richard Attenborough playing the killer who used baths of acid, Ughh. The shot pulls out along the London Embankment. Parts of the 12x240 were used on this lens. More I cannot remember.
