Dear Extended Red Community,

Consider this an impassioned plea.

Last summer I created a website called RedHax.net
This site is a wiki, which means a collective text, and a website that anyone can edit.

The purpose of a forum site like RedUser is to host an active worldwide discussion about this technology. The purpose of a wiki like RedHax is to distill the best knowledge from such a discussion and put it in a well organized place where it can be retrieved and collectively refined. A forum is about discussion a wiki is about consensus.

So if you've ever been stuck searching through a forum for a post you read years ago, then you understand that there is a need for this.

So what am I asking for: a collective effort to create a database of information about Red. In theory if you write 100 words on RedHax your effort will be multiplied by the efforts of hundreds of others. You receive the direct benefits of such an effort. You don't need to know much about formatting wikis, just click the edit tab at the top of the page and words are all you need.

All content on Redhax is copyrighted under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike License so the knowledge can be freely copied to other places besides RedHax. Likewise I will never turn the site into a commercial endeavor.

So write 100 words on Redhax and be amazed by the power of collective effort.

Warm Regards,
IBloom

IBloom,

I love what you are doing. I'm trying to get a worldwide red owner/rental directory up on www.redoneworld.com. At the moment I am building it on www.4khub.com

I think you may have the same problem I do, that you can announce something like this on a thread, and before long it gets lost and outdated and there ends the authoring of new info on your wiki.

We need to try and make this a sticky, so that it's always on top. I would also somehow like everyone to know they can come list on a worldwide directory.

Is there any way we can make this info a sticky?

I have also tried to contact reduser about advertising, maybe a banner or something. So far no reply. A banner ad might work well for you too. Not sure how much it would cost.

Is there anyone here that can shed light on advertising external sites and resources on reduser?

Ian what about hand picking guests to each write a sort of definitive article on a particular aspect of a subject where they possess expertise? Pm them and personally invite them to do that within a certain amount of time maybe even ask some to commit to an article per week or so and then from there I am sure the knowledge bank will snowball.

Just an idea.

DogDay.

You are correct that RedHax.net is very much needed and will save all of us a lot of time. If I had my Red camera yet or thought that I was half as knowledgeable about all this as many on this forum I'd contribute.

I would say that dogday's suggestion to ask specific people to write on specific subjects would be a great starting place.

I say a list of areas and sub subjects and catagories a 1st step break down...

Then you Ian who knows just about everyone here and is liked and well respected match the authority for each area and send an invite to those people. They will just get the ball rolling but will set a standard that can continually be augmented as developments come by others who also want to contribute to this knowledge and resource base you started for us.

I'm adding some to the On Set Editing parts, I have lots of Tools and tricks most of us should know by now

Nice one=This was great.

Please follow suit and whenever possible boys and girls insert something visual along with any text. Never underestimate the closeup of an orifice.

DogDay.

I got 50 words in under monitoring, I'll register and do more later. Excellent idea Ian!

Very interesting reading guys. The new stuff is primo.

Hi Ian,

I sympathise with your attempt to create a wiki, I gave it a go ages ago as you know. You are more than welcome to take any information from www.redwiki.org and use it on there, it seems pointless having two. Infact if you want the redwiki.org domain you are more than welcome to it.

Furthermore I posted a couple of articles on my personal blog last year and you are welcome to copy them over if you like. You can find them at www.paulmclements.com. Some of them might need slight amendments if they are out of date.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Paul

Thanks Paul,

One difference I noticed is Redhax doesn't support hotlinking images, you must upload them. This is important to prevent broken links over the long term.

I know this is a bit on the curious side, but I wrote an extensive article in Norwegian which you can find here:
http://redinfo.no/Artikkel/01-Innledning.html

I'll go through it to keep it updated after build 16

It's more like 11 pages than 100 words, though...

The not outdated parts of Brooks faq is also there. (I asked Brook about permission before I translated it :) )

You could double check with the Norwegians if it is of any value...
