Tough times for some...

If you don't have your own clients you can get in real trouble relying on the open market for your income.

How do we know this is legit...and not some producer putting a fake ad up to draw a bogus price comparison?

WHOOOOAAAAA WTF!!!! i just did my own search to see what else people are doing!!!!

check this one out!!!!

RED Camera Package $300/day with DIT!!!

RED Camera for RENT for $300/day! Some sound equipment and lights, dolly available too!

I am a DP/DIT who is new to LA, so looking to create good business relationships while also working with high quality people.

I have directed/DP'd many commercials, music videos, short films, and one feature. My work as a Director or DP has been seen on MTV, CNN, FOX, ESPN, Spike, History, and other national networks. Again, the only reason I am willing to work for so cheap is that my contacts in LA are limited and I'm trying to show good faith by offering a low rate to work with good, talented people in the industry.

Perhaps you are a successful industry producer or director, but are just working on a smaller budget project. Whatever the budget, my RED package is an amazing deal. I am super easy to work with, a hard worker, and good at what I do, whether you just need the camera, me to DIT, or me as a DP.

Great! I'll take the gear for the day and get him to wash my car instead of coming on set!

could be someone who wants to break into the business and has money to burn.
stranger things have happened

What's this guy's contact info (you can PM me)? Later this year I'm looking to shoot a low to no budget "test" short film on the red, to get a feel for the camera and workflow. $300 a day is right in the "I can afford it out of my own pocket range."

there are lots of people renting their REDs for basically nothing. if a producer tried to reference that, i wouldn't really care, as it would have to be a reputable rental house with back end support to make even a remotely fair comparison. then again, no producer i work with would even bother getting a quote from someone like this.....it's not their job to get a RED for the cheapest possible price. it is their job to get a working system, and produce a smooth shoot.....

that said. more power to this guy. there are plenty of people out there who would jump at this, and appreciate the lowest price possible. in no way do they affect the serious rental market however......they do seriously affect the rental market for the low budget shoots, and that is all.

That's what I was thinking!

Let them bogus quote. Not going to change my approach. If someone wants to undercut me, let them. The client usually comes  begging back with hat in hand in the end!

When I used to run a DVD authoring company, about 1/4 of my work was salvaging major projects screwed up by cowboys.

what does it say about me that I rent out my red one for LITERALLY nothing? :)

Brandon:

It means you're subject to ridicule from a group of ill-informed fanboys living in a fantasy world. If you guys heard a limo was renting out for $300/day, no one would say a thing - other than it may be a little high. Yet this guy's package cost less than a limo - so where's the problem? And if you say that a limo driver is less skilled than the average DP, you are so very wrong.

Nick.
