  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Would like some suggestions on where to go next with my Mini render machine

Hello All!

Lets get right into it. My current specs are as follows -

Intel 4930k
Corsair H110 CPU Cooler
64GB 1866mhz DDR3
GTX 780ti OC edition
Asus X79 Deluxe
240GB SSD
120 GB SSD
(various HDD)
Corsair 860i PSU

It's looking pretty expensive to get a totally new machine but I was wondering in what area's would be most helpful in terms of chucking out RED RAW transcodes? Would waiting for the new line of Titans be my best bet ? At the moment I can get 10-15 fps which is not ideal but I have to live with what I can afford and with Alexa 444 I get 25 fps.

Do you think I should just scrap this and buy a whole new system as I wouldnt get that much gain from a new GPU would would a new Titan really kickstart my system? or even a 980 (what kinda speeds do you all get?)

I am currently in the process of getting all of this into a tiny case for using on set along side our Pelicase Data Transfer Station. (http://www.quietpc.com/cooltek-jonsbo-w2) This one to be specific.

I know I wont be able to afford the 75+ fps crazy renders you guys are getting :P But what would I have to add to this machine to get atleast real time REDRAW (EPIC) Transcodes?

Thanks for any help you can offer I would really appreciate it :)

Well the 6 core CPU and DDR3 is going to limit your performance for that platform compared to the current X99 and DDR4 with GPU acceleration. That board can handle the V2 Xeons but the money is not well spent since the prices dont really drop on the Xeons. I would suggest waiting on the 900 series Titan cards and get those since they can be moved to a new system later. Then see what your performance is like. If it's still less than what you want then X99 and the 5960X or V3 Xeon 10 Core plus is the way to go later.
