While I wait for my Scarlet-W to come in, I picked up a Scarlet-MX that I can use with the accessories I was buying anyway for the W. So now I have the B cam but still waiting on the A cam.

Anyway, given that it was a fairly cheap second hand buy, I'm not totally convinced about the merits of paying $500 to transfer the ownership to me with Red.

Anyone got any good reasons why I should pony up for it?

I am looking for a B-Cam (Scarlet - W), same question here. Is it worth it since I already have the account with my Epic Dragon?

Well, at a base level, unless you have access to the previous owner's RED account, you won't be able to download any firmware - so you're stuck with the version that's on the camera now.

$500 also gives you a 90-day warranty, gets it fully checked out, in addition to firmware access

Not accurate. That policy was changed last year.

All you need now is a RED account. I can log in right now and download any firmware from MX all the way up to Weapon CF.

I agree, it's tough to justify.

Nope, that's $600 :)

It's worth it. You get a 90-day warranty, stolen camera database protection, and thorough cleaning and inspection because god knows where the camera has been.

Must have missed that one :)

I recently picked up a battle tested Epic-X while waiting for SW. I think it's well worth 600 in the grand scheme of things. I'm actually going to opt for the 90 day+ 1 year option. I think it's a reasonable price tag for such a long warranty extension.

I think it boils down to what you are comfortable with. If you've tried the camera and all seems to work, well, it is probably going to last at least another 90 days and then you are right back where you are now. My thoughts have always been if an electronic device is going to fail, it will do so when it is newish or very oldish.

If the seller has tried to sell you a unit that is defective, I would suggest sending a log file support ticket in to RED and see if they offer a clean bill-of-health. If not, don't buy the camera.

One day, on a random thread, someone griped about it and then about 10 mins later Brent came back and said it was changed. Love the way RED listens on these forums. :)

Worth it. Do it.
