Worst Piece of Nonsense ever "Published"...

Even Jesus Christ could not satisfied all, so isnt red that will do so.
Lot of choices on the market.
Dont like it? Shop else where.

Of course it's Jim's hobby - and there's nothing wrong about it. He's having fun and, good for him. And we all can learn a lot from him.

And Tom, don't get me wrong, but 'Ghandi' is, let's say a more complicated figure than what one sees portrayed usually.....how many millions died out of his 'peace' process we might prefer not to know. He sure was a master politician.

What a sad day, I thought everyone would be happy, excited, celebrating. WTF went wrong? I'm guessing expectations were too high and many are upset.
"such is life"....Ned Kelly

Um.... i'm confused. Why was she banned??? Because she disagreed? This was mishandled...

Although i disagree with her in regards to being a hobby and RED failing, she did have some valid points as to how some of the public is going to react by buying alternatives for their business now that scarlet is so far away.

I could be wrong here but didn't RED release these things:

RED one camera, set of RED Pro Primes, RED 18-50mm lens, RED 50-150mm lens, RED 300 mm lens, RED 18-85 zoom, RED Rocket™™™™™™ card.

All of these products are revolutionary and have pushed drastically lower price points. They've been adapted by thousands of indies and well established directors too. She stated on her blog that RED doesn't know how to release PRODUCTS. What kind of nonsense talk is that... utter nonsense. The only commonality I see is that those items are at price points that she cannot afford but just like a commenter posted on her blog:

The big issue is the price-point, because most people looking for these types of cameras aren’t wanting to pay more than the sweet-spot of $1,000. So it will be interesting to see what technology can produce at that price-point over the next year or two.

LOL... the horde wants in the game now at at a price point of $1000. In some ways Jim is to blame for pushing the consumer hopes of these people. The gold rush is on and every body wants a shovel and a plot of land. The REAL economy in America is dead... and so now millions of people want to be cinematographers/editors, etc. The only problem is that they have no money or even an understanding of the dynamics of the business. The market is WAY overcrowded and a cheap vDSLR won't even get you a start.... you will just be an owner amongst millions of owners. Just like everybody is a photographer nowadays. Even if people could get a RED RAW vDSLR do they understand the resources that has to be acquired for a professional system. Lenses, Tape back up drives, RAID drives, RED Rocket™™™™™™ card, multicore systems. Everyone is not entitled to the DREAM... its just not possible. This dream takes money. Our paint brushes still cost thousands of dolars. The tripod to place an Optimo 24-290 on a Canon 7D still cost 17k. Democratization is just an illusion. Yes RED pushed the price point lower... but many RED owners had to struggle and some are now at the lower rung threatened by the incoming horde and the big dogs on top.

The 35mm adapter crowd wants in... folks there is no market for you. Stop looking at just the camera... the minefield extends way beyond that. I can still remember the day I and an associate was on Fort lauderdale beach filming... he had a RED and I had a RED. My RED had an Oconnor 2575c, RED 18-50mm lens, Arri Matte Box and Arri Follow Focus.... his had an Oconnor 1030, Redrock matte box/follow focus and Zeiss ZF 50mm prime. He couldn't get the images mine had and kept looking at my images and my camera. This guy had a RED camera just like mine but still felt inadequate. My guess is that a vDSRr won't solve any problems for millions of users. Because lights still cost money, locations still cost money, good lenses still cost money, etc, etc, etc. This is still a game for heavily invested... specialized professionals not part time hobbyist like Eugenia.

Jeff, Ace I respect your decisions as moderators, and usually when someone gets banned from this forum it's because they have become such a nuisance it's disruptive to the community. In this case, Eugenia came to defend her statements she made off of the forum on her blog. I happen to disagree with her statements, and we had a conversation about it. We seemed to agree to disagree. I felt like the best course of action for her was to try and talk to Jim if she was that unhappy about how RED is conducting business.

Did she take some shots at RED and Jim - yes. Was it done in a way that gets you banned? Borderline at best in my opinion. I think given that she is a recognizable presence on the web, it would have been more beneficial to close the thread if it seemed like it was going nowhere but personal attack. I think she probably would have let it go. Then she could still contribute on other threads.

Now maybe there has been a track record with her that I'm unaware of, and that forced the hand here. If not, I'm just not sure I agree with the banning. I think it's important that the community allows opposing points of view as long as they are presented tastefully. Anyway, that's just my take on it.

Hi Andrae,

Not sure I would class the rebarreling of Sigma zoom lens as revolutionary, not the best still lens conversion I ever saw.

I thought that someone x-rayed the 18-50 and found that there were a different number of elements in it? Meaning that it was probably not a converted Sigma?

Anyway, my title of the thread was over the top, and for that I apologize.

I'm usually more measured in the things I say, but perhaps emotions were running a little high last night, for all of us.

My money is on Sigma. Are you suggesting the lens was designed from scratch for the Red project?

Best,

Stephen

:nono:

What I'm saying is that unless you can confirm this is indeed a fact that you are just speculating, but you state it as if you know it for a fact, which is not entirely fair. :nono

I suggested that because there were a different number of elements in the RED and Sigma lens that they may not be the same lens. Of course I don't know for sure. Do you?

Anyway this is now going off topic for this particular thread.

Wow, this thread sure has grown long... I'm pretty surprised that it hasn't been closed already!

Anyway, the way I see it is that once again, people are getting really worked up about nothing... There are so many people crying about the price of Scarlet - when no final price has been announced! This doesn't make any sense at all! Why doesn't everybody just wait and see what it actually costs, and then if you feel that RED has broken their "promise" to you of a camera better than the Sony F35 for $3000 (despite saying countless times to count on everything changing...), you can whine about it then.

But I'll still try to ignore you...

Theres nothing wrong with empassioned debate and criticism. Infact, it is the one thing we need more of on this forum.

Eugenia's temporary removal from this board in the wake of yesterdays news had nothing to do with either of the above. It had everything to do with the reduser community and the open dialogue RED maintains with the us all. Telling red to keep their "mouth shut" and calling them liars is neither beneficial or constructive to a community who at large depends on a wealth of shared information from RED for many reasons. And this will not be tolerated.

Can the drivel posted publicly be ignored? Ofcourse not. You dont go off and publicly call a company on a seperate forum "hyperbole vaporware products, made by hype machines rather than engineers" suffixed by "no disrespect intended" and then expect to get a warm welcome on a forum called red-user. That is rude, childish and naive. Also, if you want nothing to do with this company, as stated, dont come here and ruin it for the rest. This is a self regulated community. If you dont want news, you wont get it, as Jim has stated a few times now. RED listens.

A
