Uses HIV blood to create a red filter for the lens...

"Below is Untouchable, the creepiest, most sinister camera ever produced (to my knowledge). The camera was created by Mr Belger in order to photograph HIV sufferers, so naturally he filled parts of the camera with HIV positive blood. Says the artist, ‘The blood pumps through the camera then in front of the pinhole and becomes my #25 red filter’. Incredible. Found at Boy of Blue. "

aaaaaa.... i'd love to see that in motion. But freaky as hell.

disgusting:prrr:

I think it is a profound artistic expression. What is art if it is not elliciting response (negative or positive). The role of art in a post internet world has changed in no uncertain terms and as society begins to accept the horrors of the world through the veneer of the CSS styled internet, we need artists to keep us in touch with humanity. To me, I see contemporary art moving forward being very much like this, pushing the boundaries of the senses and existance of the human spirit. Case in point, one of my favourite up and coming artists, Richard Whitehurst who's work speaks for itself:

nevertheless...disgusting. Can you imagine shooting with that in a real world instance? That'd be the same response I'd get from potential clients.

I think that's missing the point a bit. This is not a camera that is meant to be sold, or frankly, even used by anyone other than the artist that created it. The camera, along with the photograph it was used to create, offer an artistic interpretation of the blurry and restrictive world that faces people who are HIV positive and living with AIDS. The frightening nature of the project reminds us of the common demonization and casting out of those living with AIDS.
Art is not meant to taken quickly or at face value. Dig deeper.
Peace,

-Harry
