Hi guys,

I´ve just bought a custom workstation for editing Red Epic Dragon in Premiere and I´m having some problems... Lag in the timeline, black video... I wonder if someone could help me.

Here´s the computer settings:

Motherboard - Z10PE-D8 WS
2x Intel Xeon 2026 V4
Graphic board - Asus GTX 1080 (Witch I have already changed with a old GTX970 because the drivers aren't working properly... I could have video in Premiere...)
2 SSD disks (One for the system and media and on for cache files)
64GB RAM
DELL UltraHD 4K P2715Q 27"

I have also a ThunderboltEX II Dual card but it looks like it doesn't work with this motherboard... I would like to have external Thunderbolt disks, but I guess it´s not possible with this board....

Shouldn't I be able to work on premiere with RED 5K footage smooth with a system like this? Or is there something I´m missing? By the way, is premiere hungry for CPU or Graphic card?

If someone could help me understand if I could do anything with this workstation or maybe an alternative solution I would appreciate. I really need to have a fast editing workflow.

Cheers
Guilherme

Generally, black video is a sign that a codec isn't installed or that GPU / Display card drivers are incorrect. Your system should be able to play 6K with no problem. Do you have mercury playback engine enabled?

Hi Hal,

I think the codec is ok, because when I replaced the 1080 with the 970 I managed to have video. About the drivers, the 1080 even with the latest drive I couldn't have video in premiere. And with the 970 with the latest driver also didn't work... I had to rollback the 970 to a old version and then it worked, but laggy... All this with mercury playback CUDA. With CPU it works but that´s not the best way to edit...

I have the same motherboard with 2690v4s and 2x titanx and don't have any issues myself.

Did you find any soloutions? Although my workstation is a little smaller in specs I'm also wondering about the playback performance I'm getting.
