I posted awhile back regarding an upcoming shoot of mine and trying to figure out how to make RED run on my computer as mine's a few years old. It's seeming like we'll be using the 1080p/1k proxies to edit then uploading them on another computer into the 2/4k resolutions. However, there's a number of shots where I might need to use AE (like for gun muzzle flashes, blood sprays, etc.). I'll be using the Action Essentials 2 package from Andrew Kramer for different effects and it's usually from AE it's meant to be comped in.

Normally when I've edited with non-Red cameras and needed AE, I was able to use the main footage file, run it in AE, finish the effect, then export it and used it in FCP (my AE computer is a PC while my editing computer's a mac). Anyways, is it possible to use the smaller proxies to edit with AE and be able to upload it to the higher rez later?

Yes, I'm kinda RED retarded. First time using the system

We're facing the same situation. We're using the same Action Essential plug in, but we're using it in Premiere. You only apply the muzzle flares to one frame, so there's no tracking - easy to do in Premiere.

Casey, Since you can work with native Red files in AE, why not use those & export to the res you need?
BTW, Because Premiere works with native R3d files, even on slow computers (just lower the playback settings), I am cutting my latest feature film on Premiere on a mac. I have been using Final Cut since version 1, so I do miss it, but I am getting used to Premiere. There are other great advantages, the main one being you can seamlessly go back in forth from AE.

Try your best to get CS5 Production premium, Muzzle flashes. hits and blood splurts are great using mocha for tracking,
