Working with children in film

I like this thread, it sounds true to me, and im only 14! ha! but i hate being in front of the camera, im always the guy behind the camera, i love video and cinematography, i think im very skilled in this trade, plus i get the oppertunities to use a glidecam and a Red One. Just cant wait to own my own Red. That'll be the day eh?

Agree. I think the fear of working with children in film is pretty baseless, but equally, you have to like and connect with kids in the first place, and realize their potential if you're ever going to pull it off.

The fear of working with children in general is mostly caused by the absence of "inner child" which leads to perceiving kids as "different". Society has created imaginary perception of what "adulthood" is and inner child tends to be suffocated while growing up, either being thought that way by parents or surroundings or both. If one's inner child is forgotten, approach to kids is strange and unpleasant. Kids feel that just as they feel positive vibes coming at them.

Connection with kids is a non issue if you have a thing to connect. It is as simple as entering their room and saying "Hi". If there is nothing on your side for them to connect to - your vibe, you can bring a ton of candy and they will still hate your guts because they, unlike adults, still posses the power of seeing beyond the facade.

I've worked with all ages, except infants. With youth, one of the projects I've worked on was a TV show, which I was doing for almost two years, with ages ranging from 5-6 to high-school teenagers. Kids are mentally clean, powerful, smart, and radiate enormous positive energy. With most of them it's easy to work with if you can enter their world and be yourself. They don't want to enter your adult world because yours is fake and distorted, and if you push them there you mostly get robots.
