Hello RedUser,

does somebody of you guys have an idea how to make an working EDL in Avid when you work with Pro Res Files?
My workflow till now:

rendered R3D Files with Clipfinder into Quicktime Pro Res HD Files
imported in Avid MediaComposer as DNxHD Qicktime Mov. for Offline Editing
If i want to make an EDL with the EDL Manager to Batch in Quantel later, in the TApe ReelID its always AX, even if i ad a camroll column in Composer and try to take the Tapename from there in EDL Manager..

Somebody has an idea...

Thanks for your help

You missed a huge step which is the ALE creation and batch import of the footage.

Remember: When you edit offline you don't edit video and sound. You edit metadata - like timecode and reel.

If you just import the files into Avid there will be no reference to the reel or the timecode. Hence the AX (auxilliary source) in the EDL.
Quantel will not be able to online the project without the metadata.

My suggestion is that you use Metacheater for the ProRes files and import the resulting ALE into Avid and batch import the files.

Now for the boring part. You have to eye-match the entire edit with the new clips. It's less insane to do it in the cheap offline than in the expensive online suite. But if you have a boatload of cash you can make the online facility happy and sad at the same time.

(In the future I would suggest that you use RedRushes to generate the ALE and choose an Avid codec for the Quicktimes (DNxHD 36 is badass for HD offline).

Are the clip names the same as the file names still, or did you change those?

Like Jorgem says, you missed a big atep with ALE creation. All of this is described in the Step by Step guide on www.avid.com/red.

Transcoding to ProRes first gives you no advantage as you will be decoding and re-encoding again during import into Avid. Also, encoding to ProRes takes longer than DNxHD according to some test results I have seen posted on this site. Going directly to DNxHD 36 for offline from RedRushes saves you both time and disk space.

Hello,

now i exported in QT DNxHD and created an ALE with REDrushes. While importing in Avid MediaComposer 3.5.1 the clips are Offline when i try to relink them its not working even if i dismatch everything except Master Clips...
