Hi.

I´ve just shot my first musicvideo on RED. The guy that was going to grade it, dropped out of the project. So now I have to finish it myself. But that won´t stop me. I´ve done some work in color earlier, but not with Red. Therefore I wonder what the best workflow is? I got the project in FCP. Where do I go from there?

Help very much appreciated!

Paal from Norway.

how did you get it to FCP what was your workflow into FCP and what is the current status of the video in FCP

My editor says this to me:

He edited with the proxys in FCP.
Then he made an XML.
Imported this to Crimson, and relinked the clips in full quality.
Then he took it from there to REDCINE, and made an XML, wich he exported to DPX.

Now I have a bunch of DPX files.
But I can´t import it to Color. Anyone know how I do that?
Maybe something in the process has been absolutely wrong?

Your help is very much appreciated, and means a lot to me at this point!!!

You should be able to import the DPX sequences directly into Color, or you can wrap them into a QT file first and import that way. You can also wrap as QT and bring them into FCP, then do a Send To: Color.

To import directly into Color, select the Setup tab and the Shot tab, then navigate to your DPX sequence. Click Import. Start with a fresh project first. Don't mix formats on your Color project timeline, ie.. QT and DPX.

Allright. Thanks!

My questions are then:

How do I import the DPX-files to Color?
How do I wrap them into QT?

Thank you very much for your help!

Re read my earlier post for instructions on how to import into color, I was specific....

To wrap DPX into QT, If you have a Kona card, you can use the utility that comes with it DPX to QT Translator. If not, GlueTools makes a plugin that will allow you to import directly into FCP.

The tool from AJA works without a card, you'll need the codecs, but they are a free download.
