  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Worked with an M Monochrome this past week. WOW.

If dragon is anything like this..... DAmnnnnnn

I cant post images, but its night vision. In terms of sensitivity, it feels like my old F3 in sLog and then some.....

All i will say is that we were shooting in natural light at night with K35's @ a T2.0 at 72FPS no problems. Dragon can't come soon enough. Gotta buy more ND though.....

I didn't get the Vision of DSMC - Digital Still & Motion Camera - until i played with the monochrome a bit . Basically I viewed RED as a motion camera, and a "still" camera for fashion shoots for slow motion of hot models walking by - but didn't consider it in the same ball park as large format cameras. I was thinking the 6k dragon sensor was something for the Still crowd, and most people will do motion at 5k on the dragon with the added dynamic range. I'm pretty sure i was completely wrong.

There is a book called "Truth Beauty: pictorialism and the photograph as art, 1845-1945" that David Mullen recommended that i keep next to my computer ... that reminds of what these new camera's are capable of - but with motion. Basically i think these new DSMC systems will blur the distinction between still art forms and motion art forms. I also think it will be compelling to the audience when films are shot at the full 6k (i.e. compelling means box office). As a subnote - I'm making sure all my new lenses I get will cover the 6k sensor without vignetting.

check out greg williams who shoots epic for stills and video

I took part in the test, we used one of our Canon K35 sets...

Extremely impressed with the Monochrome. The K35s coupled with ISO 2000 was an incredible combination.
The noise and sensitivity characteristics of the camera were truly amazing.

I still think that the Monochrome is a very specialized camera - rent it when you need it.
But if the upcoming Dragon is as good as the Monochrome in color, then everyone will be very happy.

P.S. And I met Timur - a very, very nice and knowledgeable guy. Great shoot.
