I will be working on a feature film 2 weeks from today as DIT. The DP has asked me to grade shots on set for his reference. Not unusual and I often do this with Redcine. But this film will be offlined on Avid and conformed from the R3Ds on Digital Visions 'Nucoda Film Master V3.6'. Then exported as a DPX sequence for the film out grade etc...

I have 2 things I want to do and would really appreciate advice in these matters. As this will effect the work flow for the entire film and probably filter through to post.

1) I would really like to be able to do a simple grade with the DP on set and save our CDL as a file to then be imported into the Nucoda system. Doing so I'll be able to preserve the DPs intentions for the shots.
What would be the best software to do this with, baring in mind timeliness on set and compatibility with the Nucoda system?

2) I would really like to have a data base for all clips to be able to run searches referencing clips by scene and take number. Then be able to bring up each clip's meta data. I believe that Redeye was suppose to do this but I'm not sure if it was ever released to the general public.
What would be the best software for this?

Thanks for your help.

For onset grading I used a trial of Speedgrade onset for a few days and can highly recommend it.

This may be off of what you're after, but check out "Clipfinder": http://www.daun.ch/software/

You can load/import an entire folder or entire drive (and keep adding). All R3D files will show up. Double click on any file and it will open automatically in Red Alert, grade image, then hit option command A and proxies will all be converted/saved with these new metadata settings.

Note: certain settings don't hold if proxies are imported into FCP (I.E. curves). I mainly focus on ISO and contrast at this stage.

You can also add comments/notes to each clip then save and/or cut and paste to an excel sheet.

No idea how this would play with Nucoda, but you may want to check it out to see if it helps at least with you clip references.

Thanks for your reply yeah I am actually about to check out Clipfinder today. It will probably be good for a data base but I doubt it will work as an efficient on set grader and integrate with the Nucoda system.
Will also check out Speedgrade.
